What they DO need 👇

The truth is: if your child gets started with grammar lessons that overcomplicate the language…

I’ve seen it again and again — they lose interest fast.

Most kids just don’t find those topics interesting at the very beginning.

When kids are just starting with Spanish, what they really need is a start that feels:
- simple enough to follow
- interesting enough to care about
- and successful enough that they think, “Hey, I can do this.”

So if your child is just getting started with Spanish, here’s what I recommend instead of diving into grammar right away 👇

🎶Start with music, chants, and games that captivate them
🍪Use bite-sized vocabulary lessons and do practice in between each lesson
❤️Incorporate their favorite way to practice at the end of each lesson so they have something to look forward to every time they are studying Spanish

When a child feels successful, their desire to keep learning grows naturally
and that’s when they start practicing Spanish independently 🙌🏼

This is where a lot of kids quietly quit. 😅

Most apps throw kids straight into vocabulary lessons before teaching students pronunciation. 

What happens?
🥴Students never learn how to pronounce Spanish correctly even though it’s a phonetic language.
🫩Students therefore lack confidence when reading and speaking, to the point that they avoid participation when they eventually do join a live class.
😩Then they dread going to Spanish class, when it’s supposed to be something fun and exploratory
🙅🏻‍♀️🙅🏻The next thing you know, they’re dropping out of Spanish

The problem has nothing to do with your child’s intelligence or skills. The problem is that apps and even many Spanish teachers skip teaching phonics. 

Here’s what to do instead 👇
In our online Spanish lessons for middle schoolers, we start with Spanish phonics right from the get-go.  
🎶First we learn the alphabet with a catchy song
🗣️Then we practice letter recognition and play games that eventually lead to students producing the letters
🙋🏻‍♀️We also use chants to learn Spanish phonics and weave phonics and letter recognition in throughout level 1 without students thinking twice about it (we make it fun)!

The result?
🎉 They get a quick win in the first week of class
🎉 They feel proud and excited to show you what they learned

Hi, I’m Nikki! I’m a former public school teacher turned founder of Skillabration where we take students’ foreign language skills from 0 to fuego. 🔥

We offer Spanish, ASL, French, Mandarin and Cantonese lessons to learners ages 8 and up, but the majority of our students are middle schoolers.

As a team of 7-10 teachers we have helped over 2,000 learners build fluency, confidence, and excitement while learning languages.
