A big thank you to Dr. Perry James for his guest lecture today on how we as Dine' fit in with the cosmos and all living things on earth (mother earth). In this short clip, he explains part of the Beauty Way ceremony, which is a traveling song related to the four sacred mountains. It can serve as a metaphor for navigating life and pursuing your goals and dreams.

The Amazon is often described as untouched wilderness, but research shows that Indigenous peoples have been actively shaping parts of this landscape for thousands of years. A major study of the eastern Amazon found evidence of polyculture agroforestry beginning about 4,500 years ago, including cultivation alongside the enrichment of edible forest species. Nature
That does not mean the entire Amazon is a human-made food forest. It does show something important: generations of Indigenous communities managed forests in sophisticated ways that left a lasting mark on the plants growing there today. Traditional ecological knowledge has a much deeper history than many people realize. 🌿
