Athlete of the week: Vivian C.

Vivian started karate on her 7th birthday karate party with Sensei Marc. She officially started her first class on 1/10/24 with Sensei Kimmie.

Accomplishments in karate:

I participated in my first tournament ever at the Crown Tournament in January 2026. I earned a silver and a bronze medal. Most recently, I was promoted to Bluestripe Belt by Kyoshi Brett.

Accomplishments at school:

In 2nd grade I earned a perfect score on the IREAD assessment as well as academic awards for placing in the 99 percentile on NWEA and 90th percentile on the Cogat. Building on that success in 3rd grade, I scored in the top 2 percent of all 3rd grade students statewide on the Indiana ILEARN exam.

I also participate in the Lake County 4-H where I recently won Champion for a project about karate.

I was recognized as Artist of the month and Reader of the month this September at my elementary school.

How has karate helped you in your daily life?

It has improved my focus and my discipline. While balancing karate, softball, 4-H and academics I have been able to build my time management skills!

Karate has taught me how to stay calm under pressure and strive for excellence in everything I do.

What do you like most about karate?

My favorite thing is being able to go to the dojo and learn karate with my friends. We like to push each other to do our best. And an added bonus is seeing Sensei Hailey before and after classes.
