A repost as we start thinking about September:

Sometimes the kids who “hold it together” the most
aren’t actually okay… they’re just holding it together.

They get through the day.
They meet expectations.
They might even be doing really well academically.
But that doesn’t always mean it’s sustainable.
Sometimes it means they’re masking, not coping.
Masking looks like pushing through, hiding stress, and trying to appear “fine.”
Coping means having tools to actually manage what’s going on inside.

And here’s what we want to stay curious about as parents and educators:
👉 Are they managing… or just getting through?
👉 What does it cost them to “hold it together” all day?
Because masking can work—for a while.
But it often shows up later as shutdown, avoidance, anxiety, or burnout.
When we shift the question from
“How are they doing?” to
“How are they managing?”
we open the door to real support.
That’s where real growth begins.

🎙️ Strong Inside Moment

Creative Coping"... also known as "lying." 😄

Wait...before you keep scrolling, hear us out.

Sometimes what looks like lying is actually a child's attempt to cover up an executive functioning struggle. Maybe they forgot the assignment, lost the paper, underestimated the time, or simply felt overwhelmed.

Does that mean lying is okay? Of course not.

But if we stop at the behavior, we miss the opportunity to teach the skills that child actually needs.

In this Strong Inside Moment, we explore why some children develop "creative coping" strategies, why they often start long before anyone notices, and why looking below the surface can change the way we respond.

Sometimes the best conversations happen when you least expect them.

In this clip from our upcoming podcast, I share a story about an unexpected conversation in one of my favorite thrift shops—and why it reminded me that so many families are working incredibly hard to support their children but simply don't know what resources or next steps are available.

If you've ever felt overwhelmed trying to navigate evaluations, school supports, or advocacy for your child, you're not alone.

💙 We'd love to hear from you.

What's one thing you wish someone had explained earlier in your parenting journey?
