Week 2 of camp! The theme this week is ‘What lies beneath’ and is all about hidden systems! Today we kicked things off with a fan favorite: volcanoes! How is new land formed and what’s going on under there? They created volcanoes and added land after each eruption, then took a core sample to see the layers.

Day 5 of camp - our last day! We learned about the American Museum of Natural History and then focused on evolution and dinosaurs! The kids created their own dinosaurs with adaptations meant to help them survive. They then dug out some dinos, cracked open a geode and made a fossil!

Day four of camp: the Hayden planetarium! We had a guest planetary scientist come explain size and distance in space at a local park. Heading back inside, we used a gravity well to see how stars are formed and how gravity in space works!

Day 2 of camp: we explored the Central Park Zoo and the various jobs of running a zoo. We focused on people who design and build the animal enclosures and all that goes into the process. The kids then picked and researched an animal and made an ideal enclosure that included enrichment toys, food and water, a place to hide and sleep, and a safe way to keep them in!

First day of FWD camp! This week we’re looking at NYC museums, and today kicked off with the Met. We had a guest artist come in and talk about Gaudi and the kids sculpted clay bowls in his style. We also played lots of games and went to the park. Excited for tomorrow!
