This summer, I had the privilege of attending the TAB (Teaching for Artistic Behavior) Institute at MassArt in Boston, Massachusetts.

TAB is the student-centered art education philosophy that guides everything we do in the Cross Oaks Art Room, so being surrounded by more than 40 passionate art educators who share that same vision was an incredible experience.

I came home inspired, challenged, and completely re-energized. This experience reminded me why I love what I get to do every day and gave me so many new ideas to bring back to my Owls this year. I truly believe it made me a better art educator!

We are well in to summer and I just realized I never posted these AMAZING 3rd grade felt and paper collage masterpieces!

The kids were randomly assigned 3 textures and had to design a creature using all 3 and then they created collages using felt. They turned out SO COOL!

Our annual 5th Grade Art Exhibition Competition was amazing this year! Each class chose a theme, nominated and voted on student leadership positions for the exhibition (art and museum jobs), and created the most incredible work.

Every exhibit was top-notch, but Mrs. Burr’s class took the win with their fair-themed exhibition! They earned a field trip to the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center in downtown Denton, along with ice cream from Beth Marie's Old Fashioned Ice Cream graciously provided by our PTA. The students also got the chance to shop at Atomic Candy.

Such a fun and memorable day celebrating creativity, teamwork, and all of their hard work!

Kindergarten spent some time painting, printing, and sewing these beautiful pillows! I am super proud of their hard work and THEY are super proud of themselves!

First grade did an amazing job on their latest masterpieces!

Our 4th graders have officially begun their clay texture creations!

They started by creating drawings that show visual texture, and now they’re bringing those ideas to life in 3D to create actual texture—it’s so fun to see their creativity evolve from paper to clay.

Once their pieces come out of the kiln, they’ll have the option to add mixed media and/or use paint to enhance visual texture on their finished artwork.

I cannot wait to see how these incredible creations turn out!
