This fall Crookston high school will have the first musical listening team in region 8A. The Music Listening Team is hosted by the Minnesota Music Listening Contest. Through the fall, teams study and listen to a wide range of music from a repertoire list in hopes of making their way to state. But there is also a mystery list, meaning pieces that were not listed in the study guide. Each team will have to decide which students favor certain styles or eras And wish to study to Gain more expertise for the team.

The music listening team is open to all music students in grades 9 through 12. Students will earn lettering points for their participation and the possibility of further lettering points if they become eligible for state participation. Students can sign up through Bound at CHS. The high school music teachers will also have a form that students can fill out to provide input regarding which times of days work best for them to join this activity, Along with more information for any of those who might be interested, but have questions about what it means. A close analogy to what music listening team is, might be a hybrid of Knowledge Bowl and an intellectual or sophisticated version of “Name that Tune” that involves some knowledge of music history.

Thank you to Coach Reese and the Crookston School girls soccer team for assisting in their annual backing of the backpacks! The girls packed 100 bags of supplies! Thanks to all who donated through the PTO to add to our supply!

It’s that time of year! New teachers! Back to school! And it is soon time for 4th graders to begin Orchestra and 5th graders to begin Band! Put the orientation date on your calendars if you have a child in one of these grades. They will be able to get sized for string instruments, sign agreements for instruments, and parents can meet the teachers that night!

Learning an instrument gives students the joy of making music, builds confidence through new challenges, creates a sense of belonging in an ensemble, and develops a skill they can enjoy for a lifetime.

IT’S FINALLY TIME FOR FALL SPORTS, PIRATE NATION! 🏴‍☠️

Our boys kicked off football season the right way last night—a team stay-in, classic football movies, pizza, fun and games and the ultimate countdown. As the clock struck midnight, they hit the field for a ceremonial kickoff to officially welcome football season!

The tradition is set, the work is put in, and the boys are hungry to bring the intensity this year. Let’s pack the stands, bring the noise, and show everyone what Pirate Pride is all about!
