We congratulate Meredith Wortmann, 2026 St. Rose School alum, who competed at National History Day in Washington DC this week. While her performance about journalist and suffragist Rhett Childe Dorr didn’t make it to finals, Meredith did win the Outstanding Affiliate Award for the top junior entry from Nebraska! This marks the end of the Wortmann family’s History Day journey. Sisters Elizabeth (2019), Sophia (2021, 2022), Cecilia (2023), and Meredith (2025, 2026) have all competed at the national level. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

St. Rose alum and CHS senior, Katie Neuharth, participated in Teaching Academy during the 2nd semester. She spent second block with Mrs. Schieffer and the 6th grade Religion class. Today was her last day and she gifted the class with a "Katie original," a beautiful pencil color piece of art! Katie was a tremendous help in the classroom. We wish her the very best as she graduates and pursues a teaching career. You will always be a STAR, Katie!

St. Rose School alumni were shining BRIGHT at the Nebraska State Speech competition last Friday in Kearney, NE. 6 of the 7 competitors were past St. Rose students 💙🌟 congratulations to Claire Marsh (class of 2025) on her 3rd place finish!

We celebrated our St. Rose of Lima School alumni at this morning’s Mass. High school alumni fulfilled the ministries. Our alumni are living examples of the enduring legacies of Catholic education. What a blessing to have so many worship with us today.

HUGE HONOR! Avery Arens of Crofton is the GATORADE PLAYER OF THE YEAR!

Gatorade, in its 41st year of celebrating the nation’s top student-athletes, has named the Crofton freshman as the Gatorade Nebraska Girls Cross Country Player of the Year!

Considered one of the top honors in all high school sports, the GPOY awards recognize high school student-athletes for their excellence in sports, academics and the community.

Arens won the Class D NSAA State Cross Country Championship in the fall of 2025 with a state record time of 17:29, eclipsing the previous mark set by four-time GPOY and former Michigan State Spartan Jeralyn Poe of Lincoln North Star High School (2011-15). The finish helped propel Crofton to a runner-up finish as a team.

Also a basketball talent, Arens has volunteered at Crofton’s Santa Day by organizing children’s games for the event, and she’s volunteered as part of litter pickup days following severe weather episodes.

An NSAA public speaking and one-act play production competitor, Arens also has donated her time on behalf of the St. Rose of Lima Parish.

We here at Knox County News are proud to see Arens recognized for such an amazing feat and to see her earn such a prestigious award! Congratulations, Avery!

The Crofton Warrior football team will head down to Memorial Stadium to compete for the D-1 state championship on Monday, November 24th. The team, made up of 37 young men, is lead by 6 seniors. Tyson Sanger and Jace Panning are 2022 St. Rose School alums. Good luck Warriors!!!
