The air in this old house is doing something crazy! A "convective loop" is hiding in corner of this three story house, and it blew my mind when I found it!

By depressurizing this historic home, I show exactly how air moves where it shouldn't, revealing hidden airflow problems, but in this corner on the third floor the air was 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙯𝙚𝙙 and 𝗽𝘂𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝗢𝗨𝗧!

Can your attic actually breathe?

On this house the spray foam was packed straight into the soffit vents, so the intake air has nowhere to get in. Heat and moisture just sit up there with no way out, and the roof deck is what pays for it. Insulation put in wrong doesn't only waste your money, it creates a brand new problem.

When you buy a new house you shouldn’t have to deal with mold growing behind your walls, but that's exactly what I found in this home in La Grange, KY!

I pulled the FSK paper back from the unfinished walls in this walkout basement and the fiberglass behind it was soaking wet and riddled with microbial growth. 😱 That FSK paper acts like a partial v***r barrier, trapping moisture right inside the wall cavities.

Combined with high indoor humidity, it was also the wrong material to use in this climate zone and now these homeowners are fighting a big national builder to make it right.

Brand new ductwork, and not a single connection was sealed! 🤬

This system is pulling humid 120-degree attic air straight into the ducts every time it runs. That's what wrecks your comfort and quietly runs up your energy bill, and this HVAC contractor actually insisted that the code didn't require them to seal the ductwork! 🤯

Your attic has a ridge vent, so it has to be venting, right?

Not this one. I ran a smoke test up in this hot attic to see if air was actually escaping, and the smoke just hung there. Turns out the ridge vent was completely blocked by roofing paper, so the attic had no real ventilation at all. 🥵

That's a big reason an attic runs way hotter than it should, and why the rooms underneath it never cool down.
