📱 Parents: Let's Talk Photo Safety with Our Kids
As AI makes it easier to manipulate images, here's what to remind your children before they post:
✅ Think first – Could this be used in a way you didn't intend?
âś… Ask permission before posting photos of friends
âś… Keep accounts private
✅ Hide personal info – No school IDs, schedules, or locations
✅ Speak up – Tell a trusted adult if they see AI-generated images being used to hurt someone
Bottom line: AI can alter photos more easily than ever. Help your student think before they post! đź’™

"If someone posted an embarrassing photo of you without asking, how would you feel? What would you want them to do differently?" This simple question can open up important discussions about respect, consent, and digital safety.

🔎 A reminder for parents: technology alone isn’t enough to keep kids safe online.

New research from Internet Matters found that nearly half of surveyed children said online age checks could be bypassed with simple tricks—from using makeup to create facial hair to showing adult-looking video game characters to a we**am.

Age-verification tools can help, but they aren’t foolproof. Kids are often quick to discover and share workarounds.

That’s why digital citizenship education, parental involvement, and open conversations about online behavior still matter so much. Technology can be one layer of protection, but engaged adults are an essential part of keeping kids safer online. 💻❤️

A new survey found that kids find it easy to bypass age checks, despite a rise in age-verification laws around the world.

📱 Group chats are where teens hang out these days—but they come with real risks.
What starts as fun conversation can quickly turn into drama, exclusion, or even legal trouble. Screenshots spread. Misunderstandings escalate. And what feels private? Often isn't.
Here's what to watch for:

Cyberbullying and social pressure
Oversharing that can't be taken back
Explicit images or threats with serious legal consequences

How you can help:
âś“ Talk with curiosity, not control
âś“ Remind them: if you wouldn't say it face-to-face, don't text it
âś“ Encourage them to leave negative chats
âś“ Keep conversations about digital life open and ongoing
One message can have lasting consequences. Let's help our teens think critically and act responsibly online. đź’™

📱 Not all social media apps affect teens the same way. A new Pew Research study found that:

đź‘» Snapchat is mostly used for messaging and staying connected with friends
🎥 TikTok & Instagram are more focused on watching videos, trends, and content

Many teens are posting less and scrolling more, which can increase social comparison and pressure to look “perfect.”

đź’ˇ What can parents do?
✔️ Ask how your child uses each app
✔️ Talk about what they see online
✔️ Focus on healthy habits—not just screen time
✔️ Keep communication open

The biggest takeaway: social media is part of teens’ daily lives, and supportive conversations can make a big difference.

About this research This study is Pew Research Center’s latest effort to explore the landscape of teens and technology today. It focuses on social media and how the views and…
