Days 4 & 5 at Camp GRAND! ❤️🏕️

Day 4 started slowly with some fun and card games in the RV, followed by a delicious French toast and bacon breakfast. Then it was back to the pool for our final wet and wild afternoon! Thomas conquered a bunch more water slides and made plenty of trips around the lazy river, while the adults were perfectly content watching from our shaded lounge chairs. 😎 We wrapped up our pool time with pizza before heading back to the RV for the night.

Day 5 was checkout day and time to head home. Camp Margaritaville was a great campground with lots of trees, nice campsites, plenty of nature, and, of course, that awesome water park!

Once home and everything was unloaded, Thomas quickly traded water slides for his virtual reality headset. Apparently, he’d finally had enough swimming and was ready for some technology! 😂

Another Camp GRAND is in the books! We packed the week with swimming, water slides, bike and scooter riding, games, delicious food, lots of laughter, and most importantly, wonderful memories with our favorite (and only) grandson.

Day 3 at Camp GRAND was somewhat more mellow…at least at the beginning! 😄

We slept in—again—and then headed into town to run some errands and do a little shopping. Thomas was less than thrilled with that part of the day, so we decided he needed someplace to work off some energy. Enter the Flip Factory Zone!

There was plenty to keep him busy, and it was great fun watching him tackle things we would NEVER attempt! 😂 He’s pretty fearless when it comes to heights, scrambling right up the climbing wall and conquering the huge, tall step towers like they were nothing.

The trampolines were definitely his favorite, and he did A LOT of jumping, bouncing, climbing, and playing.

Another fun Camp GRAND adventure in the books. After all that activity, surely he’ll sleep well tonight…right? 😜❤️

Day 2 at Camp GRAND started at 2:30 AM! ☄️😂

We got up in the middle of the night to watch the meteor shower. We settled into our reclined lawn chairs and looked almost straight up at the sky. We ALL did it—and we actually saw some meteors! ☄️ Thomas and Gramzie saw 4 or 5, and Papa Tom saw a few more since he was outside first setting up the chairs. 🥰

Afterward, we went inside for a late night snack of bananas and warm milk, then headed back to bed. Needless to say, the morning started a little later than normal!

Our adventure for the day was the HUGE pool complex at Camp Margaritaville. And that’s pretty much where we stayed all day! Thomas met a new friend, and the two of them became inseparable. They conquered every water slide multiple times, swam in every pool, floated the lazy river, and played in the splash pad over and over. They had a blast!

Today’s words and phrases: water slides, swimming, pizza, arcade time, sunburn, scooter racing, showers with soap and shampoo, s’mores, exhaustion, and an early bedtime! 😂

We’re getting rested up for tomorrow’s adventures! ❤️🏕️☄️

Today was our first full day of Camp GRAND with our favorite—and only—grandson, Thomas! ❤️ We’re spending the week at Camp Margaritaville Resort Orange Lake, which has a HUGE water park. That’s a pretty big plus in this August heat! ☀️💦

Here are a few words to describe Day 1: sleeping in, pancakes, snuggles, watermelon, laughter, hot dogs, tickles, scooter races, arcade games, ice cream, water slides, lazy river, splash pad, MORE water slides, spaghetti dinner, fruit with whipped cream, tablet time, MORE tickles, and MORE laughter! 😂

It was a full and fun day, so we’re heading to bed early to recharge for another adventure-filled day of Camp GRAND! 🏕️❤️

It was a great day to get outside with Grandpa—and that’s exactly what I did! 😎🌿

My longtime friend Warren Poplin, a grandpa, is creating short videos to share his love of the outdoors, and I tagged along on his latest adventure to be his cameraman. We explored, had some fun, and captured some great footage along the way.

It’s always a good day when you can get outside, enjoy nature, and spend time with a longtime friend. What fun!

As we’re getting settled into our new home in Green Cove Springs, we took a break from unpacking and stopped by Spring Park Coffee in downtown Green Cove Springs to enjoy some delicious ice cream. It was the perfect way to cool off and enjoy one of the local gems in our new hometown.

Sometimes it’s the simple things—good ice cream, a charming downtown, and time together—that make a perfect summer afternoon.

It was so good to get back to RVing these last couple weeks! But it’ll be even better to get back to our spot in Green Cove Springs! Why? Well, guess what?! We have enjoyed this sweet small town so much that we have decided it will be our new homebase/hometown! We’re so sure that we already bought and closed on a house!!

We picked Green Cove Springs for its proximity to Tom’s pre-surgery medical tests in Jax and to family in St. Augustine. As we’ve explored the town and vicinity, visited local churches, and enjoyed local events, we have found that GCS checks almost all our boxes!

And then, God found us a house! Tom and I were not together, but we each came across the listing at the exact same time. We asked God to open and close doors in our process, and He opened this door in just a few days. We are beyond grateful and excited to start moving in.

It’s just six blocks from the St Johns River, all redone inside and outside, except for the yard. That will be our project when the weather gives us a break. Any clue when that will be?!

And, of course, we still have some RV travel ahead, so please stay tuned!

We had a wonderful Fourth of July holiday! 🇺🇸 We headed to a campground on the river near Georgetown, South Carolina, and spent much of the weekend with the Shanks family. Stacie and Diana have been friends since the fourth grade, so it was a special reunion with lifelong friends.

We helped decorate their golf cart for the local parade, building an eagle’s nest on top and adding eagles along with plenty of red, white, and blue to celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday.

The weekend was filled with great food, lots of laughs, and memorable moments. Nat even completed 250 pushups in honor of America’s 250th birthday! WOW!!!

We enjoyed birthday cake, watched a military flyover from the beach in front of their home, and wrapped up the celebration with a fireworks show in Georgetown.

It was a fantastic holiday weekend, and we’re so grateful to Diana, Doug, and their family for welcoming us into their home and making the celebration so memorable. ❤️🇺🇸

I’ve been released from the hospital and am now comfortably settled into our VRBO. (The photo was taken this afternoon) They kept me an extra day to get my heart rate under control, which is not uncommon after heart surgery.

The care I received was outstanding. From the team members who delivered meals and kept everything clean, to the Drs, admin staff, technicians, and nurses, everyone was professional, caring, and compassionate.

The techs and RNs are true superheroes for the direct care they provide. A special thank you to RNs Wil, Mercedes, and Sabrina, who patiently answered my endless questions about both my medical status and themselves (inquiring minds want to know!). And to Sabrina’s mom, who I think may be reading this, you should be very proud of your daughter. 😁

We’ll remain in Naples until Tuesday and then head back to our RV home in Green Cove Springs. I’m hopeful this will be the final update on my heart repair journey. Thank you all for the prayers, encouragement, and support along the way. We love and appreciate every one of you!

On Monday morning, I underwent a minimally invasive mitral valve repair. While it’s considered minimally invasive, it is still serious heart surgery.

I’ve been very well cared for at Naples Baker Hospital and am progressing well. All of the doctors are pleased with my numbers and recovery so far. I have one final check in the morning and, if all goes as expected, I should be discharged afterward.

Overall, this has been a very positive experience, though certainly painful and uncomfortable at times. I view it as an investment in my heart health for the next 30 years.

God has provided an incredible team of gifted doctors, nurses, therapists, and support staff who have been professional, compassionate, and encouraging throughout this journey. Many thanks and blessings to each of them. My appreciation for those who work in health care has only grown through this experience.

Thank you as well to everyone who has prayed, sent messages, and offered encouragement. Your support has meant a great deal to Stacie and me.
