“Remind yourself that all the confusion of samsara, all deluded experience comes about through clinging to the notion of me and mine. It all originates from cherishing oneself.

Breathe out deeply and slowly, a long deep breath, and imagine the exhalation carries all your virtue, positive karma and merit to all sentient beings.

Gently breathe in again. Gather all their negative karma, obscurations and suffering. Take it into yourself, and again send them your positive merit. Practice like this for a while.”

Tsoknyi Rinpoche reminds us that when the mind feels unsettled, we don’t need to fight it or force it to change. Instead, we can relax into the experience of feeling unsettled, stay present, and simply let be.

In response to the recent tragedy in Nepal, Tsoknyi Rinpoche and the Tsoknyi nuns made an initial offering of 5 million Nepalese rupees to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.

This offering is made with the heartfelt intention that it may help ease the suffering of those affected by this tragedy and support communities as they begin to recover.

“Experience follows intention. Wherever we are, whatever we do, all we need to do is recognize our thoughts, feelings, and perceptions as something natural.

Neither rejecting nor accepting, we simply acknowledge the experience and let it pass.

If we keep this up, we’ll eventually find ourselves becoming able to manage situations we once found painful, scary, or sad.

We’ll discover a sense of confidence that isn’t rooted in arrogance or pride. We’ll realize that we’re always sheltered, always safe, and always home.”

In this teaching, Tsoknyi Rinpoche explores how the conditions of modern life can cause disturbances in the subtle body and obscure the mind's innate clarity. Rather than trying to force the mind into calmness, he points toward understanding and addressing the underlying causes of restlessness.

“The key, the how of Buddhist practice, lies in learning to simply rest in this bare awareness of thoughts, feelings, and perceptions as they occur. In the Buddhist tradition, this gentle awareness involves resting in our natural clarity.

Just as in the example of crossing the bridge, if l were to be aware of each of my patterns rather than be carried away by them, their power over me would fade. I'd be able to experience their appearance as nothing more than a combination of factors, similar to the factors that cause waves to come and go across a lake, a pond, or an ocean.”

Resting in bare clarity. Tsoknyi Rinpoche guides us to tune into wakefulness, dwell in presence, and recognize the underlying stillness that remains even amid movement and perception.
