The Creston CCSD #161 Board of Education is seeking qualified applicants to fill a vacancy on the Board of Education.
The individuals appointed will serve from the date of appointment until the next regularly scheduled school board election (4/6/27), in accordance with Illinois law.
To be eligible, applicants must:
-Be a United States citizen
-Be at least 18 years of age
-Be a resident of the school district for at least one year immediately preceding the appointment
-Be a registered voter
-Not be a child s*x offender as defined in Section 11-9.3 of the Illinois Criminal Code
-Not hold another incompatible public office
-Have not been convicted of an infamous crime
The Board is looking for individuals who are committed to supporting student achievement, educational excellence, fiscal responsibility, and community engagement.

🚧 Please Stay Off the New Asphalt Through Next Wednesday 🚧

For everyone's safety and to protect our newly paved surfaces, please stay off all new asphalt until after next Wednesday.

The asphalt is still curing and can become soft in the heat. Walking, riding bikes, or driving on it before it has fully cured may cause permanent damage.

This includes:
• Playground
• Basketball court
• Driveway
• Parking lot

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we complete this project. Thank you for helping us protect these new surfaces!

🚧 Notice: School Grounds Closed This Week 🚧
Please be advised that all school grounds will be closed for the entire week due to asphalt work taking place on campus.
For everyone's safety, please do not enter school property, as there will be large construction equipment, materials, and active work zones that present safety hazards.
Because the asphalt work extends into the playground areas, the playgrounds will also be closed and unavailable for use this week.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as these improvements are completed. Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe! We will let you know when it is safe to be on school grounds again.

Sadly, Mrs. Collins is getting ready to retire after several years of dedicated service to our school community. While we will greatly miss her, we are looking for the next friendly, organized, and dependable Administrative Assistant to join our team at Creston School!
This position plays a key role in supporting our school office and creating a welcoming environment for students, staff, and families.

Important Notice: Construction and Safety on School Grounds
Please be advised that construction is still ongoing around the school grounds. For the safety of all students and visitors, we kindly ask for your cooperation in keeping everyone safe while on the property.
There are piles of dirt and gravel present, and we ask that no one plays on or near these areas. Unfortunately, we’ve had several incidents of children throwing rocks around the playground. This not only poses a safety risk but can also damage the protective flooring currently in place.
We want to keep the school grounds accessible to families and visitors. However, if these issues persist, we may be forced to restrict access to ensure everyone's safety.
At this time, the grounds are not safe for unsupervised use. We have reviewed security footage and are aware of those involved in the recent incidents. Should these behaviors continue, we will follow up directly.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

The Board of Education of Creston Community Consolidated School District 161, Ogle County, Illinois is seeking to fill two vacancies on the Board of Education with a term of office to expire in April of 2027.
Candidates for the Board position must:
1) be a United States citizen,
2) be 18 years of age or older,
3) be a resident of the State of Illinois and the District for at least one year immediately preceding appointment,
4) be a registered voter, and
5) cannot be a child s*x offender as defined under Section 11-9.3 of the Illinois Criminal Code.
Interested persons must submit a letter expressing interest in the Board position to the District office via email to [email protected] before Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
Following a review of the submitted materials, the Board will schedule interviews with selected candidates.
