Today, my sister queens are flying from all over the world, some as far as Europe, to attend the inaugural Because Smart is Beautiful Conference and I couldn't be more excited!

For the last year, I planned every aspect of this conference to ensure we focus on the pillars of Dr. World Productions: community service, education, and mentorship, but I could not have done it without the mentorship and support of Esther. Her vision and spirit has kept me grounded and I am so grateful for her friendship.

This weekend, I will have the opportunity to speak on transforming pain into policy and purpose. There is no better way I’d rather spend my weekend. Stay tuned!!!!

Major General Gant was the first African American female active-duty engineer to be promoted to the rank of general officer and is now the only black female Major General on Active Duty.

Gant has served in a variety of command and staff positions for engineering units stateside and abroad. Prior to South Pacific Division, Gant was commander of the USACE South Pacific Border District from July 2020 to June 2021. Gant previously served as the combined joint engineer for the Resolute Support and OFS headquarters, Kabul, Afghanistan, military assistant to the Assistant Secretary of the Army-Civil Works, Washington, D.C., chief of operations for the engineer directorate, U.S. Army South, Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas, and the director for the Directorates of Public Works and Installation Support, ASG-Kuwait.

She has received several national and community awards, to include 2021 Black Engineer of the Year Conference Awards, Army Stars and Stripes Award recipient, the 2020 Women of Color Career Achievement in Government Award, the YWCA Women on the Move Award, Women of Influence in Government by Albuquerque Business First, BEYA Special Recognition Award, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., South Central Region Visionary Leader and Global Leader Awards.

“It is the last day of Black History Month, and I had the honor of reading to a kindergarten class about the different types of hair princesses wear. It was a kid friendly book that explained that hair comes in all textures and lengths. When the kids saw me, the yelled “it's a princess!!!!"

In honor of National Mentoring Month I am happy to share that I was a guest at one of The Future Kings Mentoring events. Their mission is to “Engineer Great Futures” by teaching advanced engineering concepts to young men for the purpose of developing a cadre of culturally responsible professionals and entrepreneurs who positively influence their community through academic success, economic achievement, and job creation. To develop a generation of culturally responsible individuals that are experts in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Yesterday, I had the privilege of representing Dr. World and Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc. Dale City-Prince William County Chapter by honoring our heroes in the nationwide observance of Wreaths Across America. I’ve participated in this event for the last three years. However, this time, I was able to mentor the Top Teens of America and show them the importance of preserving our freedoms.
