Sunset High Back to School Night

Sunset High School families are invited to Back-to-School Night on Tuesday, September 15, at 5:00 PM.

Families will have the opportunity to see what is happening at Sunset this year, meet the Sunset team, and enjoy some food together.

We look forward to welcoming families to campus and starting the school year together.

It has been a great start to the school year at Sunset! From Sources of Strength activities, to FFA officer retreat, to convincing Mr. Fab when he came back to sub for the day that we changed the mascot the pot belly pigs.

Registration is now open for the 2026 Roots of Wellness Summit!

Join us October 1–2 in Crescent City for “The Way Back: How Community-Rooted Practice Is Shaping Youth Substance-Use Prevention and Restoration.”

This two-day summit will bring together educators, families, Tribal leaders, youth professionals, policymakers, and community partners to explore community-rooted and research-informed approaches to youth wellness. Participants will learn practical strategies for substance-use prevention, school wellness, early intervention, restorative response, and supporting young people through connection.

Featured presenters include Judge Abby Abinanti, Chief Judge of the Yurok Tribal Court, and Dee Hankins, Human Behavior and Resilience Expert.

Check out our new Sunset High School sign!

A huge thank-you to True North, Mr. Fab, and our incredible student leaders at Sunset for dreaming up this project! Funding provided by the Klamath Promise Neighborhood Grant made our new marquee possible. We also appreciate our amazing maintenance team for ensuring it was installed correctly!

We love seeing our Sunset pride displayed for the whole community!

After being the advisor for Del Norte High School, Payne, the 2026 North Coast Region Golden Owl, switched to Sunset High in 2017 and began the Sunset FFA chapter in 2022. Likewise, she had immense support from the Humboldt-Del Norte Section advisors, alongside North Coast Regional Advisor JessaLee Goehring. Nevertheless, challenges occur across the board with continuation FFA chapters, the largest meeting state grant requirements.

Despite sharing similar foundations, only 2 continuation schools in CA have chapters. Robyn Payne shares the challenges and opportunities with advising one.
