Joe Hamilton is a Pre-K through fifth grade elementary school with a focus on student learning. As a QEIA (Quality Education Investment Act) school we are able to provide class sizes of 1:20 in grades K-3 and 1:25 in grades 4-5. Our teachers are dedicated to improving their teaching to meet the learning needs of each child in their classroom. Our staff’s top priority this year is to create a safe community for all of our students. We believe that one way to promote academic excellence is to provide a safe and positive climate. Joe Hamilton School has created a school-wide system that teaches and reinforces appropriate behaviors that support a successful, productive school community by recognizing and rewarding positive behaviors. The principles of our Positive Behavior System include Respect, Responsibility, and Right Choices. You are encouraged to become an active part of the Sea Otter Nation. Our PTO (Parent-Teacher Organization) is actively working to raise funds to support our All Day, Every Day attendance drive. If you are interested in serving on our School Site Council, joining PTO, or in volunteering at the school, please contact our office staff.

Registration is now open for the 2026 Roots of Wellness Summit!

Join us October 1–2 in Crescent City for “The Way Back: How Community-Rooted Practice Is Shaping Youth Substance-Use Prevention and Restoration.”

This two-day summit will bring together educators, families, Tribal leaders, youth professionals, policymakers, and community partners to explore community-rooted and research-informed approaches to youth wellness. Participants will learn practical strategies for substance-use prevention, school wellness, early intervention, restorative response, and supporting young people through connection.

Featured presenters include Judge Abby Abinanti, Chief Judge of the Yurok Tribal Court, and Dee Hankins, Human Behavior and Resilience Expert.

Update Regarding Law Enforcement Response - 8/25/2026

Dear Joe Hamilton Elementary School Families,

We want to make you aware that an inadvertent 911 call was made from a classroom at Joe Hamilton Elementary School today.

Out of an abundance of caution, local law enforcement responded to the school. Officers determined there was no emergency, cleared the school, and normal school activities continued.

We appreciate the quick response of our local law enforcement partners.
