My name is Rachel Fehringer, I’m located in Sidney, NE. I graduated Butlers Professional Farrier School back in 2020. Since graduation I have held a steady book of clients and have grown tremendously in the past 6 years. Initially setting out I remember the first animal I trimmed at school was a little donkey…good feet, good mind, and it took me two hours to trim her. I quickly was second guessing my choice of career….but I stuck with it under the skillful guidance of Dr. Butler, Jacob, and Pete. Hand eye coordination is not something that came naturally to me…Pete had to hold a laser on a shoe when teaching me how to draw clips, Jacob got to witness me clock myself in the forehead trying to pull a nail up for clenching with my hammer, and Dr. Butler recognized I was dyslexic early on during homework assignments. The family has always showed me patience and compassion. I can’t count how many shoes I asked to be built on repeat so I could learn…it was always met with a smile and a yes absolutely! Since then I have attended clinics and a few competitions. I completed my CF credential with the American Farriers Association in 2024, and leading up to that I had spent a week back at Butlers to prepare for the tests. This journey as a farrier has been the most rewarding experience second to being a mom I have ever embarked on. I highly recommend Butler Professional Farrier School if you ever decide to start this journey for yourself. The curriculum is well rounded with anatomy and pathology, forge skill, and practical skills underneath equines everyday. There are no better teachers out there in my opinion. Moving forward I plan on obtaining my CJF and will absolutely be returning to Butlers to prepare for that as well.

As farriers make a nipper cut, we strive to get it as level as possible. This saves time and not having to rasp as much. Due to the design and depth of the nipper jaws, more than one nipper cut may be required to get hoof to proper length. This horse required two passes with the nippers. The additional cut hoof on the ground was from a different foot.

My name is Radovan Konečný, and I am from the Czech Republic. As a farrier, I shoe horses of all breeds and disciplines in my region. I had already been working as a farrier for several years when I discovered Butler Professional Farrier School through the book Principles of Horseshoeing. In that book, I found many of the answers I had been looking for, and it did not take long for me to decide to attend the school myself.
I completed the program in two sessions during 2023 and 2024. During the Advanced Course, the school also helped me prepare for the AFA Certified Farrier (CF) examination. I partially completed the certification in Seymour, Iowa and successfully finished it the following year in Westminster, Maryland.
Butler Professional Farrier School fully met my expectations. The instructors were knowledgeable, supportive, and willing to share their experience. The school provides an excellent foundation for beginning farriers and, for experienced farriers, it broadens horizons, builds confidence, and confirms that they are on the right path in their professional development.
I highly recommend Butler Professional Farrier School to anyone who wants to improve their skills and become a better farrier.

I’m Ryan D. Rusch, and I attended BPFS in 2019, because of their reputation and
limited class size. We learned that no job was too small or too large under their
guidance, and gained a solid foundation in anatomical knowledge. Dr. Butler wrote
the foundational text on modern farriery that many curriculums utilize, but there is
only one place you can get the real deal. Since graduating, I have continued my
education through apprenticeship and ride-alongs, attained AFA certifications, and
became involved with the Rocky Mountain Farrier’s Association. Most importantly
however, I am able to provide for and enjoy a good quality life with my family in
Elizabeth, Colorado. If I can offer any advice to newcomers, it is to join your local
farrier’s association - the networking benefits and educational opportunities you
will receive pay lifelong dividends.
