How to select "All" or "Some" items on your computer

This is helpful when trying to manage, organize, and delete multiple files, photos, emails etc at once on your computer. There are two ways to select multiple items, one allows you to quickly select all items in a list, the other allows you to pick and choose which items in the list you want selected. Both options can be done on an Apple or Windows computer.

- To select ALL items between “point A and point Z” -

1. Single click and release on the first item in the list
2. Then hold down the shift key on your keyboard
3. While holding down the shift key, single click and release on the last item in the list you want selected
4. All items between point A and Z should be highlighted and you can release the shift key

- To select SOME items between “point A and point Z” -

1. Single click and release on the first item in the list
- Apple – Then hold down the Command Key (⌘) on your keyboard
- Windows – Then hold down the Control Key on your keyboard
2. While holding down the command (or control) key, single click and release on all items between point A and point Z you want selected
3. If you select an item by accident, click on it again (while holding the command key) to deselect it
4. Once all items are selected you can release the command key
5. All items you clicked on between point A and Z should be highlighted

"Do I need to install Anti-Virus software on my new computer?"

Short Answer: No

Long Answer: On older computers, you used to need to download or buy a third party anti-virus software. On modern computers, the pre-installed programs are very capable and can replace paid and free third party software of the past.

On a Windows computer the default Microsoft anti-virus program that comes pre-installed on your computer is very good and free. It will keep itself up to date and run automatic scans without you having to do anything. You can also run a scan manually.

On an Apple computer you generally don’t need any anti-virus software as most virus are written for Windows computers (the largest user base worldwide) and are .exe files, which cannot be opened on a Mac.

The only other program you might want to download both on Windows and Apple when it comes to computer security is Malwarebytes, which offers free and paid options and protects against spyware.

Did you know, you can take pictures on your cell phone (iPhone & Android) by clicking the volume button? 📱📸

If you have trouble holding your phone steady or mistakenly take multiple photos at once, using the physical button instead of the touch screen can help you hold the phone steadier and only take one photo at a time.

How do remote sessions work?

For remote sessions I use Google Remote Desktop. This is a service provided by Google and can be used on both Windows or Apple computers. Connecting via this service allows me to see what you're seeing on your computer as well as to move your cursor to click on things while we work together.

I have instructions here on how to install the Google Remote Desktop software, which I can walk you through over the phone. Once that's done, all you have to do is visit a link in your browser which will generate a code that you share with me. I can then log on remotely to see and share control of your screen.

I can only view your computer if you share the code. The code is not saved for repeated use, and becomes invalid if not used after 5 minutes (at which point you could generate a new one if necessary). Once our session has ended and we disconnect, I will no longer have any access to your computer until you share another code with me.
