Our mission is simple: make the Vermont mountains play a larger role in the life of the people. GMC’s free and low-cost programming for hikers gives you the skills, confidence, and community you need to get outside and enjoy Vermont’s wonderful mountains, ponds, and trails. End of Summer Offerings—

08/20/2026

The knotw**d at the Craftsbury Conservation Commission Knotw**d Project, opposite the Little Hosmer dam, needs w**ders and pullers. The college athletes from the Outdoor Center who did a fine job of controlling it this summer are now on their way to college. So the Craftsbury Conservation Commission needs help in continuing the attack. Can you come help w**d and/or pull knotw**d on Saturday morning 8/22 at 9 am for an hour or whatever time you can donate? We need to help our native plantings thrive.
Bring w**ding tools and knee pads and gloves if you want. Please RSVP if you can come help. [email protected] or Elinor at 802 586-9994.

Hope everyone is enjoying summer!

Tomorrow Special Program:

Discover Our Local Butterflies! Family Program
Paula Davidson • Children's Librarian, Craftsbury Public Library, Craftsbury

Event
When: Jul 23, 2026, 6 to 7 PM
Where: Craftsbury Public Library

Jerry Schneider of Hardwick loves butterflies so much he created The Butterfly Game in 2001, was a steering committee member of the Vermont Butterfly Atlas Project, and for over 15 years has visited libraries and schools to teach kids about these beautiful insects. He will bring his kid-friendly slides and displays of butterflies and moths, cocoons, and perhaps some live caterpillars to the Craftsbury Public Library this Thursday, July 23 for a 6:00 pm family program titled Discover Our Local Butterflies!

We can learn the answers to such questions as: How can we attract more butterflies to our back yards? What are some ways we can conserve butterfly habitat? When, how, and why do Monarch butterflies go to Mexico? and How do butterflies taste? (With their feet!)

Following the slide show, Jerry will help kids make a T-shirt with butterfly prints to take home. I'm asking parents to bring a white T-shirt for each child if possible, to add to the T-shirts the library can offer.
