Before you hack that goldenrod take a peek. Bees sleep in it as it gets colder. It’s not only an essential late season nectar source, it’s temporary housing for these fuzzy stinging friends as they transition back to the earth and into the arms of their Creator.
There are also multiple kinds of goldenrod. I have a lot of Canada( the weedier looking one) but I trim it all summer to try and keep it shorter. There is a prettier one- Blue-Stemmed (in picture) that grows with flowers up the stem.
So if you want to grow it you can choose more garden bed friendly types. 🐝
It also is not an allergen as it’s pollinated by insects not the wind—Ragweed though? That’s your usual culprit.
