Mrs. Thompson is awesome! She shows up for our faculty, staff, and students each and every day. We appreciate her hardworking and dedication! 💜🐾

Don’t miss the latest edition of Superintendent Dr. Duke Bradley’s “Our People,” featuring Mrs. Melissa Greer-Thompson, Media Specialist at Indian Creek Middle School.

In this spotlight, Dr. Bradley shares a meaningful, unplanned moment that turned into a powerful story about connection, purpose, and what draws people back to the places that helped shape them. A former Indian Creek student, Mrs. Greer-Thompson now serves in the same school, creating a welcoming and engaging space where students can connect with learning in new ways.

Her story is a reminder that schools are more than just places we pass through—they are places that stay with us and, for some, call us back to serve.

We are proud to be among the schools with double-digit breakthrough results on CCRPI!

3-year Impact Data: District-wide improvement

Over the past 3 years, 21 of our 24 schools (87.5%) have improved their CCRPI ratings. Even more, 6 schools (25%) e.g. Cousins MS +13.3 pts, Liberty MS +12.7 pts, Livingston MS +12 pts, Heard-Mixon ES +11.6 pts, Rocky Plains ES +10.5 pts, and Indian Creek MS +10.1 pts -- have improved by double digits – a marker for what we call breakthrough results. An honorable mention also goes to Porterdale ES who improved their CCRPI rating by +9.9 pts.

We are proud of these outcomes - but actually, something deeper is taking hold across our district.

Classroom by classroom and school by school, students are experiencing stronger instruction and more consistent support. It means we are building on what was already working - and sharpening it with research-based practices that drive results. We’ve also reflected on times when our pace was too fast or when we tried to do too much at once – all in service to children. In those moments, we’ve listened to the voices of those closest to the work and made adjustments.

Yet and still, this kind of progress doesn’t happen neatly, or without discomfort – but for our kids and community, it matters. Stronger schools mean greater opportunity for our students and a stronger future for Newton County.

And at the center of it all are our phenomenal teachers and leaders, and the focused leadership of our Board of Education.

2-Hour Delayed Start-Monday, March 16, 2026

Out of an abundance of caution, and in alignment with several of our regional school system counterparts, Newton County Schools will operate on a two-hour delayed start tomorrow, Monday, March 16.

Weather forecasts indicate the potential for severe storms in our area during the early morning hours, including the possibility of strong thunderstorms, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes. These conditions could impact travel during our normal bus routes and arrival times.

We take seriously the safety of our transportation specialists who are on the roads early each morning, as well as the safety of our students and staff traveling to school.

Please note that this decision does not mean that severe thunderstorms will always result in delayed operations. In this instance, however, several factors including matters of timing and projected severity were considered as part of this decision.

Thank you for your continued support as we work to keep our students and staff safe.
