Drawing and Design students used everyday items like paper clips, rubber bands, tape, cardstock, a straw, and tongue depressors to design a vehicle to move a small object as far as possible across the room on fishing cable.
Students needed to brainstorm, build, test, and troubleshoot their design for issues and effectiveness. They then presented their machine to the rest of the class.

ECE is about so much more than simply “playing with kids.” Before our students ever begin working with preschoolers, they learn about child development and the physical, cognitive, and social-emotional skills children are developing at each stage. They also learn that play is not just something children do for fun- it is an incredibly important way young children learn, grow, explore, problem-solve, and make sense of the world around them.

Inspired by the children's book Pete the Cat’s Groovy Imagination, our ECE students were challenged to take an ordinary cardboard box and use their knowledge of child development and the importance of play to create something preschoolers could actually use in our dramatic play area. Their creations had to encourage children to imagine, pretend, create, problem-solve, and make decisions.

It was a great reminder that there is a lot of learning behind the play! Watching our students put what they have learned into practice, and literally think outside the box, was so much fun!

Marketing students have hit the ground running with in-depth analysis of some of their favorite brands and product commercials.

Students were paired up; they selected their favorite commercial ad for their favorite product, analyzed the effectiveness and appeal of the commercial, and presented their findings.

Due to weather, the Open House for the rest of this evening has been canceled.

Due to sudden and severe thunderstorms in the Highlands, several AHPS buildings are experiencing power outages. As a result, today’s school open houses are ending early.

If you need information before school begins Wednesday, we will make arrangements to assist you. We will provide relevant updates on social media.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. Please stay safe.

A heartfelt thank you to Hammond-Mitchell, Inc. (HMI) for their incredible support of JRTC and our Early Childhood Program! Their efforts have helped us expand the footprint of our plans for our courtyard, bringing together the expertise and resources needed to move forward with some exciting ideas. We are extremely grateful to HMI for generously donating their time, efforts, and resources to help us prepare for what's to come and for investing in those who are the future of our community and beyond.

Community partnerships like this make a lasting difference, and we are thankful for HMI's investment in JRTC and in the success of our youngest learners. We can't wait to share more about the exciting changes that are on the way for our Early Childhood Program!
