Glenn O Swing Elementary

Today was a very special day at Glenn O. Swing! Our K–5 students attended an exciting assembly sponsored by Shoes That Fit and The Lids Foundation, where every single student received a brand-new, free pair of shoes and a winter hat! 👟🧢

As if that was not exciting enough, we had a very special visitor—former GOS Wildcat and current Detroit Lions NFL player, Derrick Barnes! 🏈🦁

To say our students were excited would be an understatement! The smiles, cheers, and excitement throughout the building were absolutely priceless!

We are incredibly grateful to Derrick Barnes, Shoes That Fit, and The Lids Foundation for their generosity and for making our Wildcats feel so special. What an amazing example of giving back to your community and remembering where you came from! 💙🧡

Once a Wildcat, ALWAYS a Wildcat! 🐾

Putting away our screens to truly be present together works wonders for the family—it lowers stress, helps us manage our feelings, and brings everyone closer.

Glenn O. Swing is collecting new or gently used (and washed) Halloween costumes to help make this Halloween special for all of our students!

Donated costumes will be available for students who may need a costume for our upcoming Trunk or Treat or Walkathon festivities.

Costumes can be dropped off in the school office or Room 9 anytime between now and October 21.

Every donation makes a difference! Thank you for helping us ensure that all of our students can join in the Halloween fun!

Yesterday, we had the honor of recognizing our Students of the Month during our morning assembly!

These outstanding students have consistently demonstrated what it means to be respectful, responsible, and ready to learn throughout the month.

Being selected as Student of the Month is a special honor, and we are so proud of each of these students for being positive role models and setting a wonderful example for others!

Congratulations to all of our Students of the Month! Keep up the amazing work!

Teaching our kids about self-control is going to help them in every facet of life, academics, athletics, socially, etc. Learning to put off the immediate gratification in exchange for the long-term payoff of our goals is going to help our students be happier and more successful in life.

Throughout Hispanic Heritage Month, our classes took turns highlighting one of our character strengths during morning assembly. Each day, students presented a character strength and taught our school community how to say the word in Spanish!

It was a fun way to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month while connecting it to the character strengths we practice every day. We loved seeing our students confidently share and teach others!

¡Excelente trabajo! 🐾

🍎 Congratulations to our Teacher of the Week, Ms. Caldwell! Her engaging lessons and willingness to collaborate and support her teammates make a positive impact on both students and staff. We are grateful for all she brings to our school!
