This week we are spotlighting Jamie Marsh and Noelle Alexandra who understand that cross country is about so much more than running. It’s about the people beside you through the early mornings, hard workouts, long bus rides, finish lines, and celebrations. Because years from now, it won’t be the trophies and medals you remember, it will be the people you ran beside, the laughs you shared, and the memories you made together.

This week we spotlight two runners who know that the greatest accomplishments are the ones you share.

Sydney Robke and Kadin Engle have each qualified for the state meet multiple times as individuals and as part of a team. Yet when asked about their favorite cross country memory, they both chose the same thing, qualifying for state with their teammates.
Individual goals matter. Team memories last forever. 🏃🏽‍♂️🏃🏼‍♀️❤️

Many individuals find their passion for running after their freshman year, and this week we are highlighting two remarkable athletes who joined the Holy Cross cross-country team later in their high school journey.

Mollie Schlarman Fischer, despite being part of the XC team for just two years, is synonymous with Holy Cross girls' distance running. A dual-sport athlete, she balanced soccer and cross country in the fall, and she still holds the record for the highest state finish by any HC runner, finishing as Runner-Up in 2004.

Meanwhile, Eric Ridpath began his high school career on the football team but transitioned to cross country as a sophomore. By his senior year, he played a pivotal role in leading his team to a 3rd place finish, marking it as one of the best performances by a boys' team in the school's history.

This week we’re spotlighting two incredible runners, Ralph Arlinghaus and Abby Winterberg Hess. As seniors, Ralph (1995 team) and Abby (2000 team) played pivotal roles in leading their teams to state for the very first time in HC history, setting a strong foundation for the future. Since then, the HC boys' team has made it to state 13 times, with their best finishes being 3rd place in both 2004 and 2006. Meanwhile, the girls' team has qualified 12 times, achieving their best finishes of 5th place in 2004, 2006, and 2008. We'd love to hear your memories of these historic teams in the comments!

The Holy Cross XC program is marking its 40th anniversary! To celebrate the teams, runners, and coaches who have contributed to its success over the years, we’ll be featuring a runner or coach each week during the 2026 season. Kicking things off is Coach Mike Koch, a name that truly represents the growth of the HC program. Check out our first spotlight on Holy Cross XC, and if you’re a former runner or coach, don’t forget to fill out the Google form linked below if you haven’t already. This year we will also be honoring the first teams to make it to state: the 1996 boys team and 2000 girls team. Be on the lookout for more information.

EDIT: If you have a Coach Koch story, we would love to hear about it in the comments.
