💛👵👴 SAVE THE DATE, CES FAMILIES! 👴👵💛

We’re making a little change this year—Grandparents Day is moving to SEPTEMBER! 🎉

In honor of National Grandparents Day weekend, we’re excited to welcome our CES grandparents and grand-friends to school on:

📅 Friday, September 11, 2026

We know how special the relationship between our students and their grandparents and grand-friends can be, and we can’t wait to celebrate them at CES!

More details, including times and grade-level information, will be shared soon. For now, please help us spread the word and get this date on those calendars!

It’s going to be a GRAND day at CES! 💛

🖤💛 Safety First. Kids First. Always. 🔐

As we begin a new school year, we want our CES families to know that the safety of our students will always be one of our highest priorities. Our secure vestibule and visitor procedures are an important part of keeping our building safe throughout the school day.

We loved being able to welcome our families into the building during these first days and give our students a little extra help getting settled. Thank you for helping us start the year on such a positive note!

🔐 Beginning Monday, August 17, we will resume our regular safety procedures. Parents and guardians will need to say their morning goodbyes at the door, and students will enter the building independently.

Don't worry—we won't leave them on their own! 😊 Our CES staff will be ready to greet students, offer a helping hand (or a little extra encouragement ❤️), help them get where they need to go, and make sure they start their day with a smile.

We understand that saying goodbye at the door can be an adjustment for both students and parents. Please know that this is part of our effort to find a thoughtful balance between connection and security. We want our families to feel welcomed and connected to CES while also maintaining consistent procedures that help us keep our building safe.

And saying goodbye at the door certainly doesn't mean our doors are closed to our families! 🖤💛 We want you involved. We want you connected. We want to work alongside you. A strong partnership between home and school makes us better.

Thank you for trusting us with your children and for partnering with us as we put...Safety First. Kids First. Always.

Every Student. Every Day. 🖤💛

📞 CES Attendance Reminder 🖤💛

CES Families, we have one quick attendance reminder as we get into our school-year routine!

If your child will be absent from school, please remember to call the CES Attendance Line to report the absence. Even if you have already contacted your child’s teacher through ClassDojo, email, text, or another method, you must still call the Attendance Line. ☎️

📱 How to Report an Absence:

1️⃣ Call 765-793-2254
2️⃣ Press #3 for Covington Elementary School
3️⃣ Select Option #1 for Attendance
4️⃣ Leave a message with:
➡️Your name
➡️Your student’s name
➡️The reason for the absence

Our teachers are busy welcoming students and beginning instruction in the mornings, so messages sent directly to them may not make it to the office right away. Calling the Attendance Line ensures that our office receives the information we need to accurately account for every student each morning. ❤️

We know mornings can be busy—especially when you have a sick kiddo at home! 🤒 Thank you for taking this extra step to help us keep our attendance records accurate and, most importantly, make sure all of our CES kids are safe and accounted for.

As always, we appreciate your help and partnership! 🖤💛

💛 🖤FIRST DAY = COMPLETE! 🖤💛

Our hallways were full again today, and CES just felt right. The smiles, hugs, stories, laughter, and even a few first-day nerves reminded us how much we have missed having our kids here!

And the good news? We think they’re all coming back tomorrow! 🙌

A few unofficial first-day lunch statistics:
🧀 Approximately 17 string cheeses opened
🍮 At least 8 pudding cups conquered
🍇 Enough grapes picked up off the floor to start a small vineyard
🥛 And more “Can you open this?” requests than we could possibly count!
I have learned that kindergarten lunch is not for the weak. 😂

All joking aside, today was a wonderful reminder of what makes CES such a special place. Our staff jumped in wherever they were needed—helping students find classrooms, calming nerves, opening those impossible lunch packages, giving hugs, answering questions, and making sure our kids felt safe, welcomed, and loved.

Parents, thank you for sharing your children with us. We know you send us your very best each morning, and we don't take that responsibility lightly. We care deeply about your kids, and we are going to work hard every day to make CES a place where they feel known, supported, challenged, and loved.

Day 1 is officially in the books! 🎉

And tomorrow...we'll be ready with plenty of smiles and perhaps some additional string-cheese-opening practice. 😉

Every Student. Every Day.🖤💛

FIRST DAY UPDATE 💛🖤

Due to yesterday’s storms, our school district is still without internet and phone service this morning.

But that won’t stop us from having a great first day! We are excited to welcome our students back for a little old-fashioned, no-tech first day of school! 😊

Until service is restored, our phones and email will not be available. If you need to reach us today, you will need to come directly to the school. Our Central Office will also be open and ready to assist families with any questions or issues that may come up.

We ask for a little extra kindness and patience as our staff works through the challenges that come with starting school without our usual technology and communication systems.

We’re ready for our students, and we can’t wait to see them this morning!

Welcome back, Trojans! 💛🖤
