As we prepare to welcome students back on Monday, August 3, we'd like to remind families that Newton County Schools' new Distraction-Free Learning Policy will take effect for all students in Pre-K through 8th grade on the first day of school.

In accordance with Georgia's Distraction-Free Education Act (House Bill 340), students in Pre-K through 8th grade will not be permitted to access or use personal electronic devices during the school day. This includes cell phones, smartwatches, tablets, headphones/AirPods, gaming devices, and other personal electronic devices. Devices must remain powered off or silenced and kept out of sight from the beginning of the school day until dismissal.

The goal of this policy is simple: to reduce distractions, increase student engagement, and help create classroom environments where every student can focus on learning.

Newton County Schools is proud to celebrate Newton High School senior Brennon Blount on being selected for the prestigious Georgia All-State Chorus — one of the highest honors a student vocalist can achieve. 🎶

Chosen through a highly competitive audition process involving more than 7,000 students statewide, Brennon earned his place among Georgia’s top young vocalists for the second time in his high school career.

His dedication, talent, and passion for music continue to make Newton High School and the entire Newton County Schools community proud. Congratulations, Brennon, on this outstanding accomplishment!

ALANHS Senior Spotlight

Hello guys, My name is Jazlynn Crummey, and I am a senior who enjoys playing tennis and challenging myself through different activities. Although I joined ALANHS a little later than many others, but I stayed committed. As graduation approaches, I feel excited and relieved to reach this milestone. Even though the program was challenging at times, it helped me grow, meet amazing people, and gain experiences that will help guide me as I continue my education after high school.

Hey everyone! My name is Kingston Banks, and I’m one of the seniors in the ALANHS program at Newton High School. Being part of this program over the past four years has been an amazing experience. I’ve met so many great people and learned a lot along the way. I’m really grateful to have been part of such a strong and supportive community!

ALANHS Senior Spotlight. Meet Micah
Micah Warfield has been a member of ALANHS for 3 consecutive years. She is the senior class representative, and a Merit scholar maintaining a 4.0 throughout her high school career. She is looking forward to all the memories she will create with her peers this year. Since she’s nearing the end of her High School experience she really cherishes the memories made each day. In her free time she enjoys self care, volunteering in her community, spending time with the people she loves, and sharing her “OOTDS” on tiktok. After graduation she plans to attend college majoring in Biology or Genetics! After that, she plans to continue her studies and become a pediatrician!

Senior spotlight!

Nia Mickens-Mills is a senior in the ALANHS Program. She has been an All A Honor Roll student for the past four years. She has received numerous awards and has held many leadership roles, such as Vice President, Committee Chair, and Historian. She has participated in Beta Club, National Honor Society, Student Government Association, Rambassadors, and Latin Club.
Being a part of ALANHS has been such a big part of her high school experience. As an visual arts pathway student, she has learned how to be creative, think differently, and push herself both inside and outside the classroom. After graduation, she plans on majoring in Nursing or Exercise Science because she knows she wants to make a difference in people’s lives. She is very excited for what’s next and will always appreciate the foundation ALANHS has given her.
