’Twas the Night Before School at Ninth District Elementary

’Twas the night before school at Ninth District,
And excitement was growing—oh, what a thrill!
The halls had been cleaned, and the classrooms were bright,
All ready for Vikings to arrive in delight.

The backpacks were packed, and the new shoes were tied,
With butterflies dancing and smiles tucked inside.
The teachers were ready, their lessons in place,
To welcome each Viking with a smile on their face.

The pencils were sharpened, the crayons stood by,
As students dreamed of the year flying by.
New friends would be made, new things they would learn,
With plenty of chances for each child to take their turn.

Victor the Viking was ready to cheer,
“Welcome back, Vikings! A great year is here!”
He stood proudly waiting, with school spirit in sight,
Excited to welcome each Viking just right.

So sleep well tonight, for tomorrow’s the day,
When learning and laughter begin in every way.
Bring your big smiles and your very best cheer,
For Ninth District Elementary is ready for a GREAT year!

So off to bed, Vikings, the morning is near—
A brand-new adventure is finally here!
With hearts full of courage and dreams shining bright,

What a fantastic turnout for Back to School Night this past Thursday! 💙💛

It was amazing seeing our Vikings fill the halls again, catching up with friends, meeting teachers, and getting ready to tackle a brand-new year. The energy in the building proved one thing: it’s going to be an incredible school year.

A huge thank you to all of our incredible families, staff, and dedicated community partners who came out to support us and make the night so special. We truly couldn't do it without you!

We can't wait to officially welcome everyone back for the first day of school!

🍎 Helping Your Kindergartener Get Ready for Lunch at School

Starting kindergarten is a big adventure! One of the best ways to help your child feel confident and independent at school is to practice a few simple lunchtime skills at home.

🥛 Practice Opening Food and Drink Items

Please practice opening common lunch and snack items with your child. This will help them become more independent and spend more of their lunchtime eating rather than waiting for help.

Practice opening items such as:

Milk cartons
Yogurt containers
Fruit cups
Oranges
Bananas
Snack packages and other lunch items

Encourage your child to try opening items independently first. It is okay if it takes a little practice! The goal is for them to become comfortable asking for help when needed while also learning what they can do on their own.

🔢 Practice Your Child's Lunch Number

Another VERY important skill is learning your child's lunch number.

Each student has a lunch number that they must enter on the keypad when they go through the lunch line. One of the best things you can do to help your child prepare for kindergarten is practice their lunch number at home!

All Kindergarten students will receive, at the open house or on the first day of school, a practice sheet with their lunch number and a practice keypad. Have your child practice entering their number on the number pad, just as they will when entering it at the lunch line at school.

You can make it fun by practicing for a few minutes each day until your child can enter their number without help.

Kindergarteners are learning so many new things! Practicing these skills at home helps your child feel confident, independent, and prepared when they arrive at school.

A few minutes of practice at home can make a BIG difference during lunchtime!
