Citing active COVID cases and the number of staff under quarantine, the Covington Board of Education in conjunction with Superintendent Alvin Garrison decided that all students would continue with virtual learning and not transition to the hybrid schedule at this time. During the board meeting Thursday, board members said they would further discuss return-to-school options when the board meets again on January 28.

Board members and administration emphasize they want to open schools for in-person instruction as safely and quickly as possible, while at the same time weighing the wellbeing of students, teachers, staff and their families.

COVID-related cases for Covington schools can be found on the district dashboard, which can be accessed on the district website, www.covington.kyschools.us by clicking COVID dashboard.

The dashboard contains several categories including, school and community-related quarantines and the positivity rate. In addition, the dashboard displays the Kenton County incident rate, which is also state published and shows the average daily number of cases per 100,000 population for the previous seven days. The dashboard shows data from the previous day.

In the meantime, Superintendent Garrison and the board asks that students, staff and families please adhere to safety practices that are designed to stop the spread of the virus. They include but are not limited to staying at home when sick, wearing a cloth face covering, washing hands frequently and socially distancing.
