On behalf of the Alcovy High School CTAE Department, we are excited to share how our department came together to kick off Workforce Development Month!
 
During our Week 1 photo activity, students stepped into the frame and pictured themselves preparing for bright futures. This activity brought awareness to the career-ready skills students are developing every day, including creativity, leadership, communication, technical skills, and teamwork.
 
Each photo represents more than a smile; it represents a student building the skills needed to turn today’s learning into tomorrow’s opportunities.

In celebration of Workforce Development Month, my Marketing students stepped out of the classroom today and into a real-world hiring experience through mock job interviews. Dressed in business-professional attire, students interviewed and competed for top positions within their age groups while demonstrating confidence, preparation, and professionalism.

Before interview day, students developed résumés, cover letters, and professional reference sheets.

This experience allowed students to apply essential employability skills while receiving valuable feedback. From preparing professional application materials to confidently presenting their skills and experiences, they demonstrated that they are taking meaningful steps toward future career success.

I am incredibly proud of the effort, growth, and professionalism my students displayed today. What better way to recognize Workforce Development Month than by preparing today’s students for tomorrow’s opportunities!

Today, my Marketing Entrepreneurship students had the pleasure of welcoming John Villarreal, Senior Assistant Director of Admission at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD).

Mr. Villarreal shared valuable insight into SCAD’s academic programs, the admissions process, scholarship opportunities, and the many ways students can transform their creativity and entrepreneurial ideas into meaningful careers.

Experiences like this allow students to explore new possibilities, ask important questions, and connect what they are learning in the classroom to their future goals. Thank you, Mr. Villarreal, for investing your time and knowledge in our students!

Employability skills aren’t always taught from a textbook. Sometimes they come with Chick-fil-A breakfast!

I brought back one of my favorite real-world classroom experiences this year: The Business Dining Etiquette Experience!

The scenario was simple: Imagine you’ve been invited to have breakfast with the CEO of your company. You’re sitting at the table with leadership, having a conversation, making an impression, and Chick-fil-A is on the menu.

Now the question becomes…Do you know how to eat it professionally?

Students had to navigate Chick-fil-A breakfast while practicing the small details of professional dining etiquette, taking manageable bites, using napkins appropriately, keeping their area neat, maintaining eye contact, participating in conversation, and remembering that good manners and professionalism still matter even when you’re eating with your hands.

Behind the fun was an important lesson. Business happens in more places than offices and conference rooms. Networking receptions, breakfast meetings, conferences, company events, and meals with executives can all become opportunities to make connections and leave lasting impressions.

I want my students to be prepared for those moments. So yes, we ate Chick-fil-A in class, but we were also practicing confidence, communication, professionalism, etiquette, and employability skills. Because one day, the person sitting across the table may actually be the CEO. I’m not just preparing students to get a seat at the table. I’m teaching them what to do when they get there.
