Covington Academy will be following Newton County School System’s decision for a delayed start on Monday, March 16th. Our campus will open for morning drop off at 9:45 am and our first class will begin at 10:20 am. Before School will not be available. Thank you for your understanding!
2-Hour Delayed Start-Monday, March 16, 2026
Out of an abundance of caution, and in alignment with several of our regional school system counterparts, Newton County Schools will operate on a two-hour delayed start tomorrow, Monday, March 16.
Weather forecasts indicate the potential for severe storms in our area during the early morning hours, including the possibility of strong thunderstorms, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes. These conditions could impact travel during our normal bus routes and arrival times.
We take seriously the safety of our transportation specialists who are on the roads early each morning, as well as the safety of our students and staff traveling to school.
Please note that this decision does not mean that severe thunderstorms will always result in delayed operations. In this instance, however, several factors including matters of timing and projected severity were considered as part of this decision.
Thank you for your continued support as we work to keep our students and staff safe.

OPEN TOMORROW, FEBRUARY 2ND
We will resume normal school hours tomorrow, February 2. Cold temperatures are expected to continue, so please be sure to send your student to school bundled up and dressed for the chilly weather.
While outdoor time will be limited, students will still be outside briefly during class transitions and dismissal, so warm coats and layers are important.
We can’t wait to welcome everyone back and look forward to seeing our students bright and early tomorrow morning!
