"As judges we are only as good as the people who support us. Paralegals are a big part of that...know what a valuable job you have in the legal marketplace...": The Honorable Judge Stephen Dillard of the Court of Appeals of Georgia encouraged the eight students who were inducted into the Georgia Piedmont Technical College Paralegal Studies Lambda Epsilon Chi (LEX) honor society at a special ceremony today in Atlanta.

Inductees at today’s ceremony were Angel Caldwell, Andrew Cunningham, Shanta Hogan, Alexius Jones, Jarita Lawrence-Burdette, Glenda Martin, Daniel Phillips and Sara-Jane Sully. Students Dagmawit Gebremariam, Mandy Higginbotham and Danielle Staples were also inducted but were unable to attend. The new LEX members were presented with certificates, lapel pins and purple honor cords.

GPTC Paralegal Studies Program Director Kye Haymore and faculty member Celia Murray led the ceremony and gave an overview of the requirements for induction into Lambda Epsilon Chi. “You have distinguished yourselves through your hard work, commitment and vision for your achievements. Your induction signifies your academic excellence, and you are now charged with the pursuit of that same excellence in your professional endeavors,” said Ms. Haymore.

Congratulations to our new Lambda Epsilon Chi members, and thank you to Judge Dillard for taking the time to recognize and inspire these special students!

Standing Committee on Paralegals 02/08/2022

Paralegals may be deemed essential service providers. Many paralegals continue to work in the office. However, legal recruiters also report that there are expanding opportunities in the virtual job market. The scope of paralegal work is changing with the growing need to provide remote legal services. IT paralegal skills are currently in high demand to address needs related to data security and the increased pressures of electronic case management and e-discovery. Many employers see the Virtual or V-Paralegals as super stars. Attorneys look to paralegals to be quick on their remote fingertips to deliver technology solutions accurately and efficiently while attorneys focus on the novel and complex legal issues arising from practicing law during a pandemic. Legal recruiters confirm that litigation is ramping up as the courts open.

For more information, see https://www.americanbar.org/groups/paralegals

Standing Committee on Paralegals The Standing Committee has a 50-year history within the ABA. Its mission is to improve the American system of justice by establishing ABA standards for the education of paralegals and by promoting attorneys' professional, effective and ethical utilization of paralegals.
