NCSS COVID-19 Weekly Update
Just a quick review of our COVID-19 dashboard which is designed to capture information about the impact COVID-19 has on our school system. The numbers on this dashboard reflect only the current week’s impact and all individuals counted in the dashboard have been notified of their status. Starting at the top of the dashboard, 7,483 reflects the total number of students attending school in person. The second number, 10, reflects the number of new positive COVID-19 cases among students. A COVID-19 case is defined as an individual with a positive molecular or antigen COVID-19 test with an active COVID-19 infection. The third number, 135, represents the number of students who were identified as close contacts of a COVID-19 case. A close contact is an individual, masked or unmasked, who was closer than 6 feet to a COVID-19 case for more than 15 minutes over a 24 hour period. Those identified as close contacts must be quarantined as a precautionary measure.

We have added a note to our dashboard as there is another group of individuals who are also required to quarantine who do not have a positive COVID-19 test, but who are experiencing symptoms. These individuals are identified as a “highly suspected case” as they have symptoms. In this week’s report, there is one student who is considered a “highly suspected case.”

Finally, the dashboard identifies staff members who are confirmed COVID-19 cases as well as those who are identified as close contacts and required to quarantine. This week, there are no “highly suspected cases” among our school system staff.
