Last week🧵 Kintsugi for the yellow belt chart, play with LARP boffers, and Sensei Larry feeling artsy after students fogged up the joint. 🙇

Kudos to Chris for earning his yellow belt!

It's very important to keep fighting when you're tired, especially when the odds are not in your favor and you can't get away.

You'll notice we're throwing him at the end. These are congratulatory throws. In the beginning, you throw senior people. This is because everyone is senior to you, and they lend themselves to you so you can learn. At graduation time, should you make it that far, some of those throws are returned.

After class hijinks! Next time, with violence.

The end of a class from late July, limited to two pairs working at a time to have plenty of space to fall.

One person is focused on throwing, and the other on falling. The person who's falling doesn't know what throw is coming their way, and so it's a low risk opportunity to see what's happening and yield.

A couple weeks back we shared favorite technique (tokuiwaza). The intent was to share that which we connected to early on from our own journeys. This was specific for ground technique (newaza). Pain was inflicted and received, fun was had. Enjoy!

What you see here is a drill designed to limit risk and build skills. One person throws (Tori or giver), and the other falls (Uke or receiver). Uke may resist up to one throw, Uke doesn't know which throws Tori will attempt, and both parties may fight for grips.

In a brief moment, Uke decides if defense can be deployed or how to safely fall.

Tori must have a plan - to chain two or more throws, should one or more fail. 🙇

Push to pull, slow-mo, ippon seoi nage (single lapel throw).

Sometimes when you push, but not always, uke steps forwards. This can create an excellent opportunity to pull and set up throws.

Here you can see that being practiced in slow motion.
