Ischemic strokes are the most common type of stroke, accounting for about 87% of all strokes. They occur when a blood vessel supplying blood to the brain is obstructed, often by a blood clot. This lack of blood flow (ischemia) leads to the death of brain cells and brain damage.

There are two main types of ischemic strokes: thrombotic and embolic.

- Thrombotic strokes are caused by a thrombus (blood clot) that develops in the arteries supplying blood to the brain. This often happens in arteries that are already narrow due to atherosclerosis.

- Embolic strokes are caused by an embolus (usually a blood clot or a piece of atherosclerotic plaque) that travels from elsewhere in the body through the bloodstream to the brain.

The symptoms of an ischemic stroke can vary depending on the area of the brain that is affected, but they often include sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm, or leg, especially on one side of the body, confusion, trouble speaking or understanding speech, difficulty seeing in one or both eyes, trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination, or severe headache with no known cause.

Treatment for ischemic strokes often involves medications to break down clots and prevent others from forming, and in some cases, a procedure may be needed to remove or break up a clot.

Memory T-cells are a type of T-cell that play a crucial role in our body's immune response. They are a part of the adaptive immune system, which means they provide long-term protection against specific pathogens or antigens.

When our body encounters a foreign substance, such as a virus or bacteria, the immune system mounts a response to eliminate it. During this initial encounter, some T-cells differentiate into Memory T-cells.

Memory T-cells are antigen-specific, meaning they are programmed to recognize and respond to a particular antigen that they encountered during the initial immune response. They "remember" the antigen and retain the ability to mount a rapid and robust immune response if the same antigen is encountered again in the future.

These Memory T-cells persist in the body long after the initial infection has been cleared. They serve as a form of immunological memory, allowing our immune system to respond more effectively and efficiently upon re-exposure to the same pathogen.

When a person is re-infected with a pathogen they have encountered before, Memory T-cells quickly recognize the antigen and initiate a rapid immune response. This response leads to the activation and proliferation of effector T-cells, which are responsible for directly attacking and eliminating the pathogen.

The presence of Memory T-cells is what provides us with long-term immunity against certain diseases. They allow our immune system to respond more swiftly and effectively, often preventing severe illness or reducing the duration and severity of symptoms.
