The annual spring field day at Iowa State University’s Armstrong Research and Demonstration Farm in Lewis, Iowa, will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 25. The field day will feature Iowa State University Extension and Outreach experts, who will speak on a variety of current crop and planting practices in agriculture. The event is free to attend and open to the public, with registration requested.

Join us at Hitchcock Nature Center at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 17th, and discover the benefits of smart grazing strategies, native forage on public land, and other conservation grazing strategies, as we hear from visionary guest speakers from across the region.

Then join us for a hands-on field tour where we will examine the impact our seasonal grazing cattle have had on the prairie and how they play a vital role in fire management, along with mobile mineral feeder impacts, enclosures, hiker gates, and solar water pumps.

Do grocery prices and rising food costs have you wondering if it's possible to eat healthy on a budget? Do you wish you had resources to help lower the amount of money you spend on food each month? Our Good Nutrition on a Budget class might be perfect for you!

This class will be held at Council Bluffs Public Library on May 20 from 12-1 PM. We will be sampling a variety of recipes and there is no cost to attend thanks to funding from the library. Don't forget about our upcoming plant sale this Saturday, May 9! Our West Pott. Master Gardeners have been busy with plant digs, replanting, and organizing and are very excited to welcome you out at Westfair Fairgrounds and Amphitheater starting at 8:00 am.

Get there early for the best selection! If you are a plant lover, you do not want to miss this event. Great prices and a large selection of perennials, annuals, and vegetable seedlings. Please bring cash or checks, credit cards will not be accepted.

We had a great turn out and excellent weather for our Master Woodland Steward Program meet-up last Saturday. Many Spring ephemerals were identified in the Loess Hills while we talked about the importance of a healthy understory in forests.
