The middle school students went to the Loess Hills Landfill in Malvern, IA this week to continue their learning on environmental studies in their English language arts class. Students learned how the largest landfill in Iowa manages waste from Iowa, Nebraska and Missouri, and reuses it as gas to heat homes and water. They had the opportunity to see the equipment used, learn about safety practices and future job opportunities and were amazed to discover that 200-300 semi-trucks full of trash arrive each day! A big thank you to Ryan and Carrie for providing such an engaging educational experience. The class even got shirts and other goodies!
