Over the last 10-20 years, childrens books have drastically changed. From narrative stories, conveying concepts that take a topic and bring it to life with real applicable timelines now to bright cartoon characters with repetitive plots (similar to tv shows). We have left behind what childrens books were meant to do, which was bring children along for the story & invite them in to teach real life lessons. If you’re familiar with Charlotte Mason’s teachings, she expressed these books as “the fit and beautiful expression of inspiring ideas and pictures of life.”

I’m going to work really hard at growing our classroom library with these & review them for you guys! The plus, these books were published a long time ago & now are pretty affordable at only a few dollars!

I’ve also thought about starting a childrens book club with a monthly book & activities / sensory play. Similar to what we will be doing in the classroom, but a take home version for your family. 🌿 If you’d like this, please comment below!

Have to share our new curriculum here, we are so excited to be incorporating science lessons into our pre writing & preschool course work! As much as I love hands on play, I also love a good 20 minute lesson! The kids truly enjoy sitting at the table & working on their work too.

Preschool openings! ✏️🌿

Our classroom is getting a revamp for the upcoming session & I’m getting ready to order individual curriculum. Our shelves are a little bare because we are anticipating a ton of materials soon!

Class will run Monday through Fridays 8am - 11am with snack provided. We have 2 FULLTIME openings left!

Is it too soon to start talking about going back to school?! ✏️😎

After a lot of reflection & watching the kids play / explore this summer, I have decided to switch gears a little bit come September. We will be shifting more to a preschool based environment instead of play based. While we will still have tons of child led activities & open ended play, we will be incorporating lesson plans and preschool homeschool curriculum into the majority of our morning program time!

This will change my age group from 2-4 years old, to 3 & 4 year olds! I will also only be taking two kiddos, so we can allow for more in depth learning! ONE spot is filled, leaving ONE open! This is perfect if your child didn’t qualify for public school options, if you are wanting to wait another year to enroll in a program, or simply if you’re looking for a homeschool option but don’t have the means to do so in your own home!

Our classroom will also be getting *another* revamp to accommodate all the changes for the upcoming school year! I am so excited to watch these kids blossom & learn!

At Little Seedlings, we believe children need three things, open time to explore the classroom & nature, a beautiful thoughtfully designed setting, and practical life curriculum. Our activities are inspired by multiple philosophies including, Waldorf, Montessori & Reggio, taking each teaching into account while creating a quality early learning program. Our children are encouraged to explore, discover, & be creative, while also socializing and learning life skills to become independent. Our goal is to provide a space unlike typical programs, where children are encouraged to be explorers and trusted to take part in their daily rhythm while also building a community for parents and families too. We take a whole-child, play-based approach to learning, by providing developmentally appropriate activities. We aim to support the children’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive growth and development, through our daily rhythm. We believe children should be given respect, play freely, shown life skills, and live slowly. We also believe that play, music, experiences, art, sensory opportunities are all crucial for development. And, we believe that every child has a place here to grow!

Wow, what a fun first few days! 🖍🍊🦋
