What a great day of learning and collaborating with Teacher Librarians & Library Associates across Green Hills AEA!

Lewis Central Community School District was one of four Green Hills AEA districts awarded a Computer Science Professional Development Incentive Fund (CSPDIF) grant by the Iowa Department of Education. The funds from this grant will provide over a $150,000 in high-quality computer science professional development, programmable devices, and AEA coaching and support for these districts!

This week PK-5 teachers received one day of professional development from NewBoCo, and then staff and students spent three days with author and educator, Daphne McMenemy, completing hands-on coding and STEM activities. It was an awesome four days of learning!

Students at Atlantic Community School District celebrated Hour of Code Week with several activities. Schuler students focused on this yearโ€™s theme of โ€œMake the invisible, visibleโ€ by learning how AI Is trained and then putting it to practice by creating an AI-assisted class coloring book.

First graders at Washington saw how coding can be used in the real world by coding Blue-bots to draw shapes and clear โ€œsnowโ€.

What a way to bring computer science to life!

Six grade levels means six Hour of Code sessions! K-5 students at Stanton Community Schools experienced a variety of codeable devices today: Indis, Finches, Dashes, Blue-bots, Botleys, and micro:bits plus an AI drawing station.

Special shoutout to the 6-8 student helpers who did an amazing job of teaching groups how to use the devices and helping with set-up and take down; we couldnโ€™t have done it without you!

To quote one of the students, โ€œHour of Code is SO MUCH FUN!โ€ Couldnโ€™t agree more!

What an exciting day at WCSD! Our PreK-4 students participated in the Hour of Code, where they engaged in hands-on learning with amazing devices like BeeBots, Finch Robots, and Sphero Bolts! A huge shoutout to our 5/6 students and teachers Shawna Harris and Kyle Bartels for hosting this event in the HS gymnasium! A special thank you to Heather Lundquist with GHAEA and her support.
