"How to Discover & Develop Your Child Then I tried other ideas that were equally as successful.

My name is Jonathan Harris and I am the author of the “10K to Talent” website. As a homeschooling father of nine children in the home (my oldest child is currently 19 years old and living independently), I began to earnestly look for ways to make the standard educational time more productive and worthwhile. My fear had been that we were going to spend so much time perfecting educational details an

d still wind up getting to where we really didn’t want to be. Instead, I wanted to be able to give my children an inspiration to develop early in their life a focus and a drive to cultivating something that they would eventually be very, very good at, and maybe even something that they could use to provide for themselves with a generous living. As a result, I started experimenting with dovetailing our standard study times as a means to push my children into a deeper understanding around one chosen topic of their interest. Because of these home-grown experimentations in education, I am discovering some great techniques and ideas along the way that I want to share with other homeschooling parents. I am doing all of this so I can guide my children into a life-long passion early enough so they can avoid wandering aimlessly in their early twenties through unfocused college degrees or low-paying market skills. Passion, focus, discipline, creativity, productivity: Why not get all those good things for our children before the age of 18? That is what I intend to do and I hope you will follow me on this exciting journey. Please feel free to email me at talentcoach @ 10ktotalent.com with any questions you may have. I would love to hear from you.

Happy Thanksgiving, friends!

On October 3, 1863, Abraham Lincoln declared that the last Thursday of November 1863 would be set aside as a nationwide celebration of thanksgiving:

We have been the recipients of the choisest bounties of heaven; we have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity; we have grown in numbers, wealth and power as no other nation has ever grown.

But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us, and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us. o human counsel hath devised, nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the most high God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. . . . I do, therefore, invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday in November next as a day of Thanksgiving and praise to our beneficent father who dwelleth in heaven.

Hurray! I just got a quick update that Cameron, Noelle, Hannah, and Jonathan made it to the southern France to my parents’ home. Somehow they made it through the looming country wide work strikes to their destination. Bearded gentleman in pic is my father talking to Cameron (with back turned). More pics to come.

What a wonderful weekend! Risa married long time family friend Caleb Harris. What a blessing to add another Godly son-in-law to our family. I look forward to what God has in store for this lovely couple.

This fountain in a park in Ashland, Oregon, was paid for by two local people in 1916 and built by an Italian sculptor. Back at the turn of the century this area, the intensity that new immigrants leaving the troubled “Old World” must have felt for a brand new world was probably strong and full of hope.
