Looking forward to heading home and fostering the bond between Lucy and her new Skilled Companion Aeble (it means Apple 🍎). We’ve spent the last two weeks in Oceanside, California at Canine Companions Southwest Campus training with Aeble. She was fully trained, WE needed a refresher course! We passed our tests and graduated. Great things ahead!

Lucy and I flew from Toronto to San Diego yesterday!
When Canine Companions says, “we have a match for Lucy and you need to check in on 10/26 in Oceanside, California.” 😬 We say, “Okay!”
Aaron is driving the van (and Lucy’s powerchair) from Toronto to Oceanside, CA right now. Solo. Such a hero! He’s made it to Michigan!
The newlyweds are on their way to an all-inclusive in Mexico!☀️🍻🌊🌴

Lucy was asked to give Liam away! 🥹 Honestly, it felt right to all of us. Why does dad give anyone away? I know why traditionally, but, when mine “gave me away” it felt awkward and forced. Most everything flew in the face of tradition yesterday, and it was refreshing! The sibling definitely experiences “losing a sibling” and “gaining a sibling.” I feel like every single part of the wedding was examined, considered, and then the perfect choice was made.

And THAT’s why you provide a palette for your wedding guest-wear!!! 🍁🍂
10/25/2025
Apparently sending out a palette for “what to wear” to the wedding is a thing. I wish we had thought of that in the 90s! I thought MY kid was just especially artsy and design minded. (Liam truly is!) It was very fun to have guidelines! Here is a sneak peek at some of tomorrow’s outfits and accessories we’ve put together for Liam & Lee’s big fabulous wedding!

Planes full of people we love have started landing in Toronto! ✈️ the Gride & Broom (have crossed the border! The parents of the broom (👋 that’s us!) have crossed the boarder! 🇨🇦 This drive is just epic! We camped at Pinery Park, just inside Sarnia last night. We’ve been planning Liam’s wedding for two years. It’s happening in 2 days! It’s going to be ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!

“Girl!! Are you coming through Iowa?!?!?” - Jen Jacob (via text)
eh… Technically, no, we were riding that top border of Iowa and dropping down to Chicago! The wind is awful heading south, and Des Moines is an hour out of our way… but it’s Jen… we’ve laughed hard together! We’ve cried hard together! We both built big things. She’s the founder of the Down Syndrome Diagnosis Network - DSDN. I have so much respect for her! Very few people can build something great and give it away! She is a hero. She created a much needed resource and she did it well.
I don’t have a child who has Down syndrome and I absolutely KNOW that if I needed ANYTHING ANYWHERE in this country, a DSDN family would be there for me. That’s powerful! They aren’t kidding when they say, “You’ve got this, and we’ve got you!” 🤟🏼🫶💗
So, YES! We totally drove to see Jen and Owen Jacob today! 😁🤣
-still driving, 🚐 just left Gary, Indiana. En route to Lee & Liam’s wedding in Barrie, Ontario. 🏳️⚧️💍
