Who says the first week of 7th Grade Life Science can’t include a little engineering, creativity, and friendly competition? 💜🔬

Today, students were given a limited selection of everyday classroom supplies and challenged to design and build a classroom mascot. There were no step-by-step directions and no “right” answer—just a challenge to plan, create, problem-solve, and use their imaginations!

And they definitely understood the assignment! 🙌🏾 From pipe cleaners and straws to index cards, paper clips, tape, and lots of creativity, these mascots developed some BIG personalities! 😂

After completing their creations, students displayed their mascots and will analyze the designs before voting on a class favorite. This simple activity encouraged teamwork, communication, creativity, critical thinking, and engineering design—all while helping us build our classroom community.

At DEMS, science isn’t just something we read about… we CREATE, EXPLORE, and DO science! 🧬🔬💜
