From Tolstoy to Malloy: Exploring Great Comet invites students in grades 8–12 to take a deep dive into the world of Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812. Perfect for curious performers, theatre enthusiasts, and aspiring dramaturgs, this class explores how a classic novel became one of Broadway's most innovative musicals.

Through script analysis, historical research, dramaturgy, and character exploration, students will examine life in early 19th-century Russia and discover how Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace inspired Dave Malloy's acclaimed musical. Along the way, they'll strengthen their analytical skills and gain a deeper appreciation for the creative process behind musical theatre.

Every actor has a story to tell.

In Actor's Monologue Workshop, students in grades 3–7 will build confidence and discover how to bring a character to life through the art of the monologue. This supportive, hands-on class helps young performers develop the skills they need to shine on stage.

Students will explore character development, vocal expression, physical storytelling, and script analysis while learning how to make bold acting choices. Through rehearsal, personalized coaching, and encouragement from their peers, they'll strengthen their stage presence and performance skills before sharing their work during an in-class monologue presentation.

Turn a simple block of wood into something extraordinary.

Beginning Wood Carving (Level 1) is the perfect introduction to the timeless art of wood carving for adults and teens ages 16 and up. Whether you're looking to learn a new hobby, work with your hands, or create something uniquely your own, this hands-on class will help you get started.

You'll learn essential knife skills, wood carving techniques, tool safety, wood selection, grain direction, and tool care while completing beginner-friendly carving projects in a supportive environment. Best of all, all tools and materials are included and yours to keep after the course ends.

The class is taught by Wyatt Sample, an experienced woodcarver with more than 25 years of carving experience and current president of the Saint Charles Area Woodcarvers.

Learn how to recognize the warning signs of human trafficking, understand common risk factors and traffickers' tactics, and discover how to respond appropriately and report concerns. Many people encounter victims without realizing it—this presentation will provide the knowledge and tools to help identify potential victims and make a difference in your community.
