As a non-profit, Midwest Lighting Institute is dedicated to evaluating how lighting affects human performance, especially in healthcare settings. Our most recent study, together with and shows that innovative LED lighting systems reduced the risk of seniors falling in long-term care facilities by 43 percent. The mars rover landing is great news for NASA. The picture of the celebration is even more exciting for Midwest Lighting Institute and Energy Performance Lighting. Note the color of the lights at mission control. This is the result of research conducted by Brigham & Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School using rich blue light on all shifts to increase alertness and improve productivity.

Energy Performance Lighting consulted on the lighting for the NASA research and conducted a similar study at the University of Wisconsin Hospital using rich blue light to successfully reduce harmful medical errors in the trauma intensive care unit.

Exciting times for the science of light to improve human health, productivity, and safety!

NASA's Mars 2020 Perseverance rover will look for signs of past microbial life, cache rock and soil samples, and prepare for future human exploration.

I have had numerous calls about UV-C light for virus disinfection. There are many companies selling this light via the web today. PLEASE think twice about buying one of these. At best you will get one with the right spectrum which if used incorrectly will cause burns skin and eyes and at worse you get a blue light with no UV.

The latest research is Covid-19 primarily spreads through air, not surfaces. The lights sold on line are good for surfaces but not air. Bottom line -take normal precautions and don't waste your money.

Chemically, the human body is performing several different functions at every second of the day – from breaking down food, to converting oxygen to CO2, to promoting chemical reactions (in the form of hormones) triggered by our senses. Two hormones that are driving factors in our day-to-day-lives, ...

We are now accepting applications to participate in a new study for nursing homes. Do you know a facility that would like to receive $70,000 in lighting upgrades?

Midwest Lighting Institute is currently conducting numerous studies in 3 industries: Healthcare, Education, and Industrial.

08/18/2017

We will be opening up our application for nursing homes in WI to participate in our next study soon. 2 nursing homes will receive $70,000 in free lights and be part of a study to show a reduction in falls.
