What is art, and what isn’t? Is the painting gifted by your friend considered art? Is a banana taped onto a canvas considered art? Is the poster made by a machine considered art? Should the promotion of art be art itself?

While many debate the topic of what makes an artwork, one thing that many people correlate with it is the creativity used. Some may say that creativity lies in the idea, and if that’s the case, giving a prompt to artificial intelligence (AI) to create a poster makes the poster itself an artwork.

AI advertising has gotten significantly more popular this year, and with it, the creativity in marketing has seemingly diminished over time.

Fountain Valley High School (FVHS) students and teachers are adjusting to a new phone policy that requires students to put away their devices during instructional time.

The policy comes as California’s new requirements for student phone use, which took effect this school year. According to Assistant Principal Hayato Yuuki, FVHS has always had a phone policy, but the school added stricter rules to follow the new state and district requirements.

“We’ve just implemented a little bit more rules to make sure that we fall in line with the state law, district and board policy, along with our school policy,” Yuuki said.

On Friday, Sept. 18, President Donald J. Trump announced that effective immediately, CNN, MS NOW and Politico would be banned from the White House. According to Trump’s post on Truth Social, the reason behind banning the three news outlets is due to the publishing of “fake news” regarding the president.

“CNN stands fully behind our White House team and their fair and accurate reporting. We have a right under the U.S. Constitution to do that reporting without hindrance or interference from the government,” CNN network said in a statement Friday afternoon. “Should the ban which President Trump threatened go ahead, it would be an illegal assault on that fundamental and constitutionally-protected right.”

On Friday, Sept. 4, Fountain Valley High School (FVHS) football pulled off a miracle on the Huntington Beach High School field in a 27-21 comeback victory over Marina High School.

While the sun was still out, the Fountain Valley Barons struck first with a touchdown in the first quarter from senior Nathan Gordon ( #2). The Marina Vikings followed with a touchdown later in the quarter, but a block during their extra-point attempt kept them trailing the Barons with a score of 7-6.

Fountain Valley’s momentum continued into the second quarter, where senior Raymond Dillon Jr. ( #13) secured a touchdown after effortlessly dodging Marina’s defense. Again, the Vikings struck back by scoring another touchdown; however, their two-point attempt fell short, keeping the Barons ahead into the second half at 14-12.

The second half proved difficult for the Barons, as several missteps — including a fumble for lost yardage and giving the Vikings a safety — allowed the Vikings to close the two-point gap, leaving the score 14-14 as the game entered the fourth quarter.

In a nail-biting fourth quarter, the Vikings seemingly closed out the game after a touchdown with less than four minutes on the clock. With the ball in the hands of the Barons, quarterback Isaac Combs ( #5) led the offense in the critical drive. After securing 30 yards, the offense made its final play with three seconds on the clock. Given a pocket to make the final pass, Combs found sophomore Matthew Hunter ( #18) in the end zone, who made a miraculous catch to push the game to overtime.

With tensions at an all-time high, students in the stands and players on the sidelines watched as the Barons’ defense stopped the Vikings from scoring in overtime. The offense followed suit, surmounting the Vikings’ defense and closing the game out after Combs connected with Dillon Jr. for the game-winning touchdown. As Dillon walked into the end zone, students and players from the Fountain Valley side rushed the field to celebrate the miracle comeback.

Following the victory, the Barons are 2-1 and will face St. Margaret’s on Sept. 10.

Roaming Reporter: where do you see yourself in 10 years?

When we were younger, people constantly asked us what we wanted to be when we grew up. Back then, the answers came easily. We wanted to be astronauts, athletes, actors, doctors or whatever captured our imagination at the time. Now, as members of the Class of 2026 prepare to graduate, the question feels much harder. Ten years from now seems impossibly reachable.

As I walked around campus asking seniors where they see themselves in a decade, I heard a wide range of answers. Some students spoke confidently about careers they hope to pursue, whether that be in medicine, law, engineering or business. Others imagined themselves starting families, or settling into a life they have worked hard to build. Many shared goals of financial stability and finding work that gives them a sense of purpose.

At the same time, not everyone had a clear answer. High school is often presented as the beginning of a carefully planned path, but life rarely unfolds exactly as expected. These seniors may know what they want next year to look like, but 10 years … that’s a much bigger question. For many of us, the future feels uncertain and full of possibilities all at once.

Beneath the different dreams and plans was a shared hope to build a meaningful life and become the best version of themselves. In 10 years, the Class of 2026 may be scattered across different cities, careers and experiences. But right now, we’re all going to be walking across the same stage next Wednesday, wondering where the road lead.

After nearly 51 years, Fountain Valley High School’s football program has decided to pause one of the school’s longest-running athletic traditions. The decision marks the end of an era for generations of Barons who participated in and followed the tradition.

School and athletic leaders say the change was made with the future of the football program in mind. By stepping away from the tradition, coaches hope to create opportunities that will better position the team for success and strengthen the program moving forward. While the tradition will not continue for now, its impact on the school’s athletic culture and community remains significant.
