One more thing! If you are enrolled in EMS 150, EMS 150L, and EMS 151, consider getting started on your serial TB Skin Testing (TST) now. You are required to have two negative tests about 1-2 weeks apart. However, DO NOT get any vaccinations at this time. They can cause a false positive in your reading. Always complete your serial TST before you receive any vaccinations if required. You will learn more the first week. The Orange County Health Services offers many of these services for free, as does Memorial Urgent Care in Fountain Valley to OCC Students, and most Urgent Cares offer TSTing for $20-30.

If you are enrolled in EMS 150, EMS 150L, and EMS 151, please get your Varicella titer tested now before the semester begins. Bring your results the first week of school. It would also be a good idea to get your Hepatitis B Titer tested, but DO NOT get any vaccinations for ANYTHING at this time. Wait for instructions the first week.

Remember to bring your current and valid AHA Healthcare Provider CPR Card (BLS) the first day of class for EMS 150. We do not accept any other CPR training, nor do we accept letters from instructors or receipts. Here are the remaining schedules at rcpals in Anaheim (rcpals.com) and CME associates in Anaheim where you will get your card the same day. An example of what your card should look like is below and it must be signed in ink by you on the back.

We continue to get questions about the prerequisites for the EMT Training Program. This is what is in the college catalog and on the online schedule. You cannot enroll onto the wait list if you do not meet one of these requirements within OCC's enrollment system. If you meet this prerequisite from another school go to the Consumer and Health Sciences Division office with a copy of your college transcript validated that you meet this prerequisite and they will assist you. The enrollment system does not verify your AHA HCP CPR validation. We do that the first day.

There is still plenty of room on our wait list. Our wait list is used from EMSLab. Waitlisted students are petitioners, but are given priority, in the order they appear on the wait list, over traditional petitioners.

Remember that EVERYONE must bring their current and valid AHA Healthcare Provider CPR card the first day of class - no exceptions.

OCC and our EMS program encourage personal expression. However, our clinical partners, particularly the prehospital providers, have strict guidelines regarding not just uniforms. There are many restrictions on body art, piercings, unnatural hair color, long hair and facial hair for men, etc... These pictures are only representative of some of the things to avoid. If you can't cover it up and look the way a 80-year old patient might expect someone taking care of them to look, then it's probably excluded in EMS 151. Most of these things are not prohibited in lecture and would only be discouraged in lab if they pose a safety risk, such as pain. Enjoy the show.

We are searching to add to our list of EMT skills instructors. You must have an an active and current EMT license in the state of California, preferably through the County of Orange. Additionally, you must be an American Heart Association BLS instructor. We will be able to provide this training in August. Prior OCC grads are our most desired applicants.

Pay is $17.85/hour with hours scheduled 1645-2230 on Thursdays beginning with the fall semester. This is a classified, non-benefitted position. However, you are eligible for 12 CEUs towards your EMT renewal and your required ten station skill testing will be accomplished free of charge during the semester your license expires.

Applicants should contact the Program Director, Professor Hassapis at [email protected] and visit the District site to where you will be directed to our application site NeoGov to complete an application. Submit your CV, cover letter, and a copy of your EMT license.
