“Let the little children come to me, and do not prevent them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14

Sometimes, the most powerful reminders of our mission come from the mouths of our youngest students.

A tremendous shoutout to Ms. Frankie for creating a classroom where faith is not simply taught, it is lived. The joy of these students is contagious, and it is beautiful to see the seeds of faith already taking root in their hearts.

I heard one student say, “Jesus is my best friend.”

Another simply said, “Jesus is in my heart.”

Friends, THIS is Catholic education.

Our goal is certainly to form excellent students, but before anything else, we want to form young people who know Jesus, love Jesus, and recognize His presence in their lives.

God is doing wonderful things at Saint Joseph Catholic School.

Rooted in Christ. Committed to Excellence. 💙💛

Staff Spotlight- Meet Mrs. Amanda Phipps!

I am truly blessed to serve the St. Joseph School community, and this year marks my 12th school year at St. Joseph Catholic School. I began my journey here as the school secretary, where I had the opportunity to meet and build relationships with so many wonderful school families. In my current role as School Office Manager and Enrollment Coordinator, I am grateful to continue welcoming families and helping them become part of our school community.

Before joining St. Joseph, I spent 10 years working in the banking industry. My experiences in both banking and education have allowed me to develop a passion for serving others and building meaningful relationships.

My husband and I have been married for 25 years and are blessed with three beautiful adult children. All three of our children have been part of the St. Joseph community in various roles, including aftercare, instructional assistance, and substitute teaching. We are especially proud that our daughter, Cloe, is now serving as our art teacher here at St. Joseph. We also have three nephews who have attended St. Joseph—two who are current students and one who has graduated.

St. Joseph holds a very special place in my heart. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve our students and families and to share the love of Jesus with our school community each day. It is a blessing to be part of a community that feels like family!

🚨 BIG NEWS FROM SAINT JOSEPH! 🚨

We are incredibly excited (and just a little bit proud 😉) to announce that our very own Principal Kevin Rice has been selected to present at the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) Convention in Indianapolis! 🎉

His presentation is titled:
🎤 “Purposeful Empathy in Catholic Leadership: Navigating Difficult Conversations with Confidence”

As Catholic educators and leaders, some of the most important conversations we have are also some of the hardest. This presentation will explore how we can approach difficult conversations with empathy, courage, clarity, and—most importantly—Christ at the center.

We couldn't be more proud to see Saint Joseph Catholic School represented on a national stage! From our little corner of Indiana to NCEA in Indy, we're showing that small schools can have a BIG voice. 💙💛

Congratulations, Mr. Rice! We can't wait to cheer you on!
Rooted in Christ. Committed to Excellence. ✝️

Staff Spotlight- Meet Mrs. Crosier

My name is Payton Crosier, and I am blessed to serve as St. Joseph’s school secretary. I am going into my third year of working here, and my love for this school and my job continues to grow each day. I am continuously in awe that every day I get to see our students and staff grow in their understanding of Jesus and the value of a Catholic education.

I graduated from IUS in 2022 with a Bachelor of Science in Health and Human Sciences. I am married with three of the coolest little girls! Two of our daughters attend St. Joseph, making this school even more special to our family. St. Joseph has been a huge part of my family’s history, as my parents, mother-in-law, and husband all attended here as well.

Before joining the St. Joseph community, I was a stay-at-home mom for three years. That season of life taught me so much and helped strengthen my personal relationship with Jesus. It also gave me a heart for advocating, supporting and encouraging other moms, especially during the early stages of postpartum. Motherhood continues to be one of my greatest ministries, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to teach my girls about Jesus and watch their faith grow. In teaching them, I often find that my own faith grows right alongside theirs.

One of my favorite things about St. Joseph is the close-knit community. We personally know each of the families who attend, and we hope every family knows just how much love we have for each of our students. As Mr. Rice says so beautifully, our goal is to “build Saints.” I am so grateful to be part of a community that strives to do just that each and every day!

"Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these" Matthew 19:14

Staff Spotlight- Meet Mr. Kevin Rice, our Principal!

Mr. Kevin Rice is a Distinguished Graduate of Saint Joseph Catholic School, making his return to lead the school a true homecoming. His connection to SJCS runs even deeper, as both of his children are also graduates of Saint Joseph and recipients of the school's highest student honor, the Saint Joseph Award.

Kevin has been married to his wife for more than 20 years, and together they have been blessed with two wonderful children. Their family has experienced firsthand the lifelong impact of Catholic education, which fuels his passion for ensuring every Saint Joseph student grows academically, spiritually, and personally.

He holds a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Western Governors University, where he received multiple Excellence Awards recognizing outstanding achievement in his graduate coursework. In 2023, he was honored by the Indiana Department of Education as an Emerging Leader in Education, recognizing his commitment to servant leadership and educational excellence.

As principal, Kevin believes the mission of Saint Joseph Catholic School is simple but profound: to help form young men and women who know Jesus Christ, love Him, and are prepared to serve Him in the world. He often reminds students, families, and staff that the school's ultimate goal is not simply to prepare students for high school or college—but to help prepare them for Heaven. This vision is reflected in Saint Joseph's motto: Rooted in Christ. Committed to Excellence.

Outside of school, Kevin proudly describes himself as a lifelong "nerd." He enjoys reading, writing, painting miniatures, and watching great films. He is currently working toward self-publishing his first fantasy novel, Redemption, the first book in a planned trilogy. His favorite novel is The Lord of the Rings trilogy, his favorite movie is Interstellar, and he's always happy to talk about Warhammer, Star Wars, or almost any great story set in a richly imagined world.

Whether greeting students at the door each morning or speaking to the parish community, Kevin is passionate about building a school where every child is known, loved, challenged, and inspired to become the person God created them to be.

Staff Spotlight- Meet Mrs. Tina Schunemann!

Hello! I'm blessed to serve as the religion teacher at St. Joseph Catholic School, where I've been teaching for the past four years after spending two years as a teacher's aide. Sharing my love for the Catholic faith with students is one of the greatest joys of my life.
My husband Brian and I have been married for almost 42 years and we are the proud parents of our son, Cory, a graduate of both St. Joseph Catholic School and Our Lady of Providence High School. These days, however, the star of the family is our first grandchild, Rose Christi, who has completely stolen our hearts and keeps us smiling.
When I'm not at school, you'll usually find me at Eucharistic Adoration, curled up with a good book, or volunteering in the library at St. Louis Bertrand Church in Louisville. My family has been part of the St. Joseph parish community for more than 30 years, and I feel incredibly grateful to live, work, and worship among such wonderful people.
