Corydon was named the capital of the Indiana Territory in 1813. The capital was moved from Vincennes in order to decrease the threat of Native American raids following the Battle of Tippecanoe. In 1816, the first constitution of the state was drawn up under Constitution Elm. The trunk of this tree still stands. Later that year, Indiana officially became a state, and Corydon remained the state capital until it was moved to Indianapolis in 1825. During this time, the Harrison County courthouse also served as the state capital building.

Presley O'Bannon was the first American to raise the American Flag over foreign soil in a time of war. He was born in Fauquier County, Virginia in 1779. In 1801, he joined the Marine Corps. In the First Barbary War, he led the successful attack at the Battle of Derna, a coastal town in eastern modern Libya on April 27, 1805, giving the Marines' Hymn its line "to the shores of Tripoli." He is buried in the Frankfort, Kentucky city cemetery.

This cannon was discovered during utility construction in Petoskey, Michigan in 1996. It was manufactured in Augusta, Georgia. In 1899, there was a Grand Army of the Republic encampment here and General Joe Wheeler was the keynote speaker. A cannon fired salutes over Little Traverse Bay. It is believed that this is that cannon. It is a mystery how it ended up in Petoskey.

Perry County, Indiana lies on the Ohio River between Louisville and Evansville. The county was established in 1814, and was named after Oliver Hazard Perry. The original county seat was Rome, but was moved to Cannelton in 1859. This courthouse was constructed in 1896 and was used as such until 1994 when the county seat was moved to Tell City. It currently serves as the Perry County Museum.

Here is it. My first post. This is the courthouse in Somerville, Alabama. Somerville was the original county seat of Morgan County, which was established in 1818. Somerville was the county seat from 1819 until 1891 when the county seat was moved to Decatur, on the Tennessee River. This building was built in 1837 and remained the county courthouse until the county seat was moved. This is the oldest original standing courthouse in Alabama
