🌱 SEPTEMBER 4-H HOUSEKEEPING! 🌱

A new 4-H year is officially here, which means it’s time for a little September housekeeping! 🧹📋

First things first — GET THOSE ENROLLMENTS COMPLETED!

Our 2026–2027 4-H & Clover Kid enrollment is officially OPEN! Whether you’re a returning family or brand new to Wayne County 4-H, now is the time to get enrolled and ready for another great year.

A few important reminders as we kick off the new year:

Our September newsletter is out! The newsletter can be found on our website under 4-H & Youth → Newsletters, and the most current newsletter will also be featured on our homepage for easy access.

📝 RECORD BOOKS ARE DUE SEPTEMBER 30!
Need help getting started or finishing up your record book? All of the forms, resources and a breakdown of what you need can be found on our website!

🏆 AWARDS NIGHT — OCTOBER 25
Mark your calendars! More information will be coming as we get closer.

🍀 NATIONAL 4-H WEEK IS COMING!
National 4-H Week is just around the corner, and we have some fun things planned! Be sure to check out the newsletter for some upcoming highlights.

📱 STATE FAIR & COUNTY FAIR EHIBITS, CHECK AND BUCKLES
All county fair buckles, sale checks and state fair exhibits can be picked-up at the extension office!

🌟 2026–2027 4-H & Clover Kid Enrollment Opens Tuesday, September 1st! 🌟

Whether you’re a returning member or interested in joining 4-H for the first time, we have a community here to support your story as a member! 💚

Here are a few things to know as enrollment opens:

• Enrollment can be completed online at 4honline.com OR in person at the Extension Office. We highly recommend utilizing the online platform, as it makes it much easier for families, club leaders, and our office to keep enrollment information organized and up to date.
• Clover Kids (K–3rd Grade): FREE
• 4-H Members (4th–12th Grade): $5
• Brand-new to 4-H? Welcome! If you are a new 4-H member or family, please contact our office and connect with Allyson so we can help find the best club fit for your youth.

📌 Remember: You MUST complete enrollment to be officially classified as a 4-H member.

We are excited to welcome new and returning families for another year of learning, leadership, friendships, and opportunities!

This weekend we get to celebrate one of our very own at the Iowa State Fair—our 2026 Wayne County Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame Recipient, Diane Shields! 🎉

If you’ve been part of the Wayne County Fair for the last 30+ years, you’ve likely heard the name Diane Shields—and probably thought of one thing: the 4-H horse barn.

Diane’s passion for horses began at 14 and eventually became a 19-year commitment to the Wayne County 4-H Horse Project. From organizing weekly meetings and clinics to helping families, loaning horses and equipment, and leading the effort to improve the horse barn, Diane always put the kids first.

Although she may no longer be the project leader, you can still find her in the horse barn come fair time supporting her grandkids!

Congratulations to Diane Shields, Wayne County’s 2026 Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame recipient!

All livestock sale checks and any leftover premium cash can be picked up at the extension office!

Stop in Monday - Thursday from 8 AM - 12 PM & 12:30 - 4:30 PM to sign off and collect your money!

Today marks the end of Emma's internship here with Wayne County ISU Extension and Outreach and Wayne County 4-H.

Emma has spent every minute of her summer assisting day camps, lending extra hands for Humeston Public Library and Seymour Community Library programming, and teaching lessons for Wayne Community Schools Summer School with Allyson. From tree planting with 4-H members, learning the ins and outs of Wayne County Fair, tackling FairEntry training and anything else we threw her way - we are incredibly grateful for Emma's hard work, positive attitude, and dedication to serving the youth and families of Wayne County.

Please join us in thanking Emma for all of her hard work and wishing her the very best as she begins her next adventure.

A huge thank you to CKM Graphics for putting our order on EXPRESS so everyone can have their shirts before the Wayne County Fair!

T-shirts are $10 each and can be picked up at the Wayne County ISU Extension and Outreach during regular office hours, Monday through Thursday before fair:
8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
12:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Payment: Cash or Check only.

If you completed a T-shirt reservation form, your shirts have been set aside and are ready for pick up. If you would like to secure a shirt so it's ready for you - give us a call and we will have it out front!
