Join us in celebrating our international student interns as they present their final projects for the Branching Borders 2026 program! This event is a great opportunity to hear all about the exciting research that our amazing Branching Borders interns have been working on, connect with fellow students, and celebrate our interns hard work over snacks and refreshments.

The event will take place on Thursday, September 10th, 2026. Presentations will run from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM in PFSC 315 and Virtual via Zoom. Reception to follow in the Treehouse. We are so looking forward to seeing you there!

Welcome to the College of Forestry! We are thrilled to introduce Edanur Ayhan Polat, who is joining us as a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Forest Engineering, Resources and Management (FERM).

Edanur holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Forest Engineering and is a Research Assistant and Ph.D. candidate in Forest Economics at Bursa Technical University, Türkiye. Her research centers on forest economics, carbon accounting, and ecosystem service valuation and combines growth modeling, carbon accounting, and economic analysis to advance climate change mitigation and sustainable forest management.

Consider submitting an application this fall to be an English Teaching Assistant (ETA) with the Fulbright US Student Program!

Fulbright offers funded opportunities to serve as an ETA in your choice of 75 countries worldwide for the duration of a school year. The scholarship covers the cost of round trip airfare and healthcare and provides a monthly living stipend for recipients.

Fulbright is open to US citizens who are graduating seniors, graduate students, and alumni, and the ETA branch of the program offers the chance to serve as a cultural ambassador in K-12 or university classrooms worldwide.

OSU offers dedicated support for anyone who wishes to apply through the National and Global Scholarships Advising office. You can submit an application with the advice and guidance of LeAnn and Becca. With their help, you can create and submit an application by the Fulbright national deadline!

Our final intern spotlight for the 2026 Branching Borders program!

Alexis Dorado joins us as a Master's student from National Taiwan University (NTU). Alexis was born in the Philippines and conducts research for their home country while attending NTU. Alexis will be interning with Professor Gerald Presley in the Department of Wood Science & Engineering. Alexis has a diverse research background in wood science and sustainability. Their current research focuses on natural colorants for wood finishing applications.

Yi Ping Chang joins us as a Bachelor's student from National Taiwan University (NTU). They will be undertaking their internship with Professor Woody Chung in the Department of Forest Engineering, Resources & Management. Yi Ping's research focuses on engineered wood-based materials and sustainable forest management.

Nam Tri Huynh joins the College of Forestry as a Master's student from Nong Lam University in Vietnam. They will be interning with both Professor Jacob Bukoski in the Department of Forest Ecosystems & Society and Heesung Woo in the Department of Forest Engineering, Resources & Management. Their research focuses on quantifying mangrove carbon stocks using remote sensing and AI applications.

Peter Romih joins the College of Forestry as a Master's student from the University of Primorska in Slovenia. They will be interning with Professor Eric Hansen in the Department of Wood Science & Engineering. This Summer the College of Forestry took part in a partnership with the University of Primorska through one of our short term faculty led programs. Peter's research focuses on engineered wood products, timber construction, and the broader development of wood-based value chains.

They will be interning with Professor Carlos Gonzalez-Benecke in the Department of Forest Engineering, Resources & Management. Furkan's research focuses on forest management, particularly in the fields of silviculture and forest economics.

Today marks the start of our 2026 Branching Borders student internship program.

As part of our initiative to welcome these international visitors and student interns to the College of Forestry, we aim to spotlight one of our amazing participants each day this week!

Born and raised in Latvia 🇱🇻, Evelīna Afanasjeva joins us as a Master's student from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU). They will be interning with Professor Bogdan Strimbu in the Department of Forest Engineering, Resources & Management. In the Fall, Evelīna will be transitioning from our program to an exchange at the Estonian University of Life Sciences. Their research focus is in wood processing, production, and harvesting.

Welcome to our incoming 2026 Branching Borders student interns!

The College of Forestry is thrilled to extend a warm, global welcome to our incoming Branching Borders program participants arriving to OSU! Branching borders bridges international forestry research and education, bringing a diverse group of global student interns straight to our community.

Please join us in welcoming these talented students from Chile, Latvia, the Philippines, Slovenia, Sweden, Taiwan, and Vietnam as they collaborate with CoF faculty sponsors on crucial natural resource initiatives.
