Ethan Browning finds his story through student media

School of Communication senior Ethan Browning used his time at Oregon State to experiment across disciplines, media formats, and creative pursuits

Ethan Browning is preparing to complete his degree in digital communication arts, with minors in journalism and user experience research, after building a resume that spans nearly every corner of student media. From sports reporting and editing for The Daily Barometer to producing broadcasts for KBVR-TV, he has spent his time in college discovering that the stories themselves matter more than the medium.

Inside Composit Press at two years

The College of Liberal Arts’ student-staffed bookbindery continues to blend hands-on learning with professional collaboration, producing photobooks for artists, museums, and beyond

Now, two years into its operation, Composit Press stands as a testament to what hands-on learning for Oregon State students can achieve. Guided by photographer and Art Senior Instructor Evan Baden, but driven by novel ideas and collaborations, the press blurs the line between learning and professional practice, even carrying its work beyond campus to global venues like the Printed Matter LA Art Book Fair. Through six terms and independent study, students have
produced photobooks for renowned artists like Jordan Putt, Colleen Mullins, and Guggenheim Fellow Allison Grant, as well as pieces for the Whatcom Museum in Bellingham, Washington, the Arts Center in Corvallis, and more.

Q&A: What new research reveals about cannabis and stress

Psychologist Anita Cservenka discusses her new co-authored study examining the body’s cortisol levels, stress, and frequent cannabis use

As cannabis use continues to rise across the U.S., it’s pertinent to better understand its long-term effects on health, including how it may influence the body's stress regulation system. A new study published in June 2026’s issue of Cannabis from researchers at the College of Liberal Arts’ School of Psychological Sciences examined whether frequent cannabis use is associated with changes in the body's daily stress signaling profile. The authors, Julia Donner, ‘25,
Alexia N. Obrochta, M.S. ‘26, and Anita Cservenka, specifically looked at cortisol, a hormone that shows a daily rhythm and also helps the body respond to stress, in over 80 adults.

This Spring, the English 485/585 course collaboratively created a Guide to Oregon Literature. Oregon literature consists of texts, in “literary” genres like fiction and poetry as well as others, like nonfiction history, that are 1) set in Oregon, 2) inspired by or based on experiences in Oregon, and/or 3) by authors who have spent significant time in Oregon.
